Amir Azam Khan
==Sardar Amir Azam (Azam) ---1912-1976== Sardar Amir Azam was a famous Pakistani political personality of the 1950's. He was one of the Pioneers of the Low-Cost Housing in Pakistan, and a Minister in the very first cabinet of Pakistan.
Born in Zila Gujrat of Punjab Province in October 1912, he was the eldest Son of Sardar Muhammad Akram , a former student of Aligarh Muslim University and a Superintendent of Police in the Uthar Pradesh Province.
His Ancestors belonged to a tribal Afghan Border State of Bajore. They decended from NWFP to Punjab before the creation of Pakistan. His grandfather was a Tehsildar.
Sardar Amir Azam got his early education in Punjab. In 1930, for furthur education he moved to Muzaffarnagar in the UP Province. He did his masters in Political Science and obtained a law degree from meerut.
Due to his associatiation with Liaquat Ali Khan , Sardar Amir Azam joined the Muslim League in 1936 as the Secretary for Zila Muzaffarnagar. And a Member of UP Muslim League council. He supported Muslim league in the 1946 Elections from Meerut.
After the creation of Pakistan in 1947, Sardar Amir Azam was appointed the president of Rawalpindi Muslim League . He also remained the chairman of the Rawalpindi planning commission. And the chairman of newspaper called " Pakistan Standard '.
In 1951 & 1954 Elections, he supported the Muslim League from Punjab. And after being appointed the Minister for Rehabilitation in Pakistan he moved to Karachi during the 1950's.
He was later appointed the Secretary General Defence and the Chairman of former Orient Airways, now known as the Pakistan International Airline Corporation.
He also served as the Communication Minister, Law Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in Pakistan. And represented his country in the Commonwealth during the late 1950's.
He resigned in 1958. And Until his death in the February of 1976, he remained engaged in Housing & Construction work.
He was one of the major figures in the Housing and construction business in Pakistan during the 1960's as he formed Al-Azam Ltd., (construction company) and introduced the Low-Cost Housing in Pakistan.
A "Gold Medal" in his memory at the University of Karachi has been approved for the students of B.A. Hons., (Political Science).
