Wort (pronounced wert) is the liquid extracted from mashing malted barley in a brewing process. It is known firstly as sweet wort and then hopped wort after hops have been added at the boiling process. Wort contains sugars that will be fermented by yeast added once the solution has cooled down sufficiently to allow the yeast to survive.

Wort is an old word meaning “herb.” It stems from the Old English “wyrt,” meaning a plant or herb. It is used chiefly in combination: mugwort and St. John's wort are two examples.

"Wort" also refers to the videogame series Halo, where in the game "Elites" yell this phrase. In several interviews it was revealed that this is meterly the word "go" reversed. It's inherit significance is ambiguous, as it is used as a battle cry, cheer, and non sequitur almost interchangeably.
