Yovani Gallardo, born in Michoacan, Mexico was selected in the second round of the 2004 amateur draft. He is a right handed pitcher with the Milwaukee Brewers organization. He currently is assigned to the Nashville Sounds, a AAA affiliate. Gallardo has good size for a pitcher 6'3" 215 lbs. He reguarly throws his fastball and curveball but has a good slider and changeup with lots of movement. An above average arm with the fastball that touches the mid 90's but he usually throws in the 93 MPH range with a hard breaking 77 MPH curve. In 2006, while in AA Huntsville, he led all minor league pitchers with 188 strikeouts in 155 innings of work, the most punch-outs ever by a Brewers prospect. He finished with 14 starts and an incredible 1.63 ERA. In spring training 2007 he recorded 5 strikeouts in 2 innings including Barry Bonds. Gallardo is a candidate to improve the struggling Brewers pitching staff.

On June 14, 2007, Brewers starting pitcher Chris Capuano is expected to go on the Disabled List, possibly making way for Yovani Gallardo's major league call-up.
