Jyothika Sadanah Saravanan ( ஜோதிகா சடனா சரவணன் ) is an Indian actress who has acted in the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi film industries as the lead heroine. She is regarded as a Superstar in South Indian Cinema because of her continuous string of hits. She is paid the highest salary among Indian actresses, beating Trisha Krishnan and Kareena Kapoor.[citation needed]
Personal life
Born in Bombay, she is the daughter of a film producer, Chander Sadanah, and Seema Sadanah. She has two sisters, Nandita (Nagma), who is also an actress, Radhika (Roshni), and a younger brother Rahul. She has a Psychology Degree from Mithibai College of Arts, Bombay. She is one of the very few Indian actresses who have a clean image among the general public. She dated Surya for over 4 years and married him on 11 September, 2006.
After the wedding, she announced her decision to stop acting. She's expecting her first baby in the month of August2007. However she continues to do ad films and some work for TV. She is one of the few actresses who remained at the top for a very long time. Jyothika continually gave hits after hits and she was still in the lead in the face of newcomers like Sneha, Trisha, Asin and Nayanthara. She is considered to be more successful than Simran (her professional rival in the industry) because the latter only remained at the top for 5 years unlike Jyothika who has been in the lead for past 10 years. In a recent poll conducted by a popular magazine in Chennai, she has been named in the top 5 Tamil actresses of all time. She was ranked 4th after Savitiri, Revathi and Saroja Devi.
Career
Her first movie was the Hindi film Doli Saja Ke Rakhna, directed by Priyadarshan, opposite Akshaye Khanna. Though the film did not do well at the box office, she was noticed by the Tamil and Telugu industry. She proceeded to act in Kollywood, where she debuted in a guest appearance in Vaali. Her first Tamil movie as a heroine was Poovellam Kettuppar with Surya. A string of successful movies followed, among them Kushi, Dumm Dumm Dumm and Snegithiye. In 2003 she starred in Dhool with Vikram, in Kaaka Kaaka with Surya and in Thirumalai with Vijay. Other films include Nagarahavu (Kannada) and Tagore (Telugu). In 2004, she acted in a double role for Perazhagan and received the Dinakaran Best Actress Award for it. In 2005, she acted in Manmadhan opposite Silambarasan and won accolades for her role in it. Her most successful movie to date is Chandramukhi in 2005 with Rajinikanth. She is widely recognized for her notable role in the film Chandramukhi, which is a remake of Apthamithra, a successful Kannada film (that also starred the late actress Soundarya), which in fact was the remake of a national award Malayalam film "Manichithrathazhu" starring national award winning Malayalam actress Shobhana.[1] It's reported that her first and last Malayalam movie Seethakalyanam is not going to be released because of financial problems. Her last films are Pachaikili Muthucharam, Mozhi and Manikanda in 2007 .
She was also the Brand Ambassador for RMKV, the famous wardrobe hub in Chennai. It was reported that her inception had increased the market value of the store. At a given point of time, "Entha Colour", the caption for one of the advertisements, was one of the buzz words among Chennaiites. After her marriage to the acclaimed actor Surya on 11 September 2006, she left the film industry. However she continues to do ad films and some work for TV.
