Joshua David Duhamel (born November 14, 1972) is an Emmy Award-winning American actor and former male fashion model, who's widely known for his roles in both soap operas and television. He first achieved acting success as Leo du Pres on ABC's All My Children, and later as James Caan's young security guard officer, Danny McCoy, on NBC's Las Vegas.

Early life

Duhamel (pronounced Do-Mel) was born in Minot, North Dakota to Larry David Duhamel (an advertising salesman) and Bonnie (a phys ed teacher); his parents divorced during his youth, and he grew up with his mother and his sister Ashley. Duhamel attended Minot State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and playing on the university's football team, as a quarterback. Although he had wanted to be a dentist from the time he was a sophomore in high school, he was one credit short of eligibility for dental school.[citation needed] His French last name means "from the hamlet."

Career

Prior to his major success, Duhamel had won an IMTA modeling contest (his first runner-up was Ashton Kutcher). He got a huge role 1999 when he won the role of Leo du Pres, a charming schemer, on the ABC soap opera All My Children. His work on the show, especially his involvement in the wildly popular Leo and Greenlee pairing, garnered critical acclaim and Duhamel even earned an Emmy for his portrayal of the Leo. Duhamel opted to leave the soap in 2002 to pursue other opportunities.

In 2003, Duhamel landed a primetime role on the NBC show Las Vegas playing casino security agent, Danny McCoy. He'll succeed James Caan after he departs at the end of the fourth season. Duhamel has also played the character on Crossing Jordan in a crossover arc.

Duhamel has also appeared on the big screen, landing roles in films such as Win a Date with Tad Hamilton! and Transformers.

Personal life

In January 2004, Duhamel was engaged to his girlfriend of several years, fashion model Kristy Pierce, although they broke off their engagement soon after. Duhamel, who lives in Brentwood, is currently living with singer Stacy Ferguson ("Fergie" of The Black Eyed Peas), having met her in September 2004, during her guest appearance on his show, Las Vegas; Duhamel has also branched into entrepreneurship, opening a restaurant, 10 North Main, in his hometown.
