Mountain Lakes High School
Mountain Lakes High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grade from Mountain Lakes, in Morris County, New Jersey, United States, as part of the Mountain Lakes Schools.
Students from Boonton Township attend the school as part of a sending/receiving relationship.
Awards and recognition
Mountain Lakes High School was the 5th ranked public high school in New Jersey out of 316 schools statewide, in New Jersey Monthly magazine's September 2006 cover story on the state's Top Public High Schools.[1]
Mountain Lakes High School was the 2006 National Champion in the Deaf Academic Bowl sponsored by Gallaudet University.[2]
In Newsweek's May 22, 2007 issue, ranking the country's top high schools, Mountain Lakes High School was listed in 843rd place, the 22nd-highest ranked school in New Jersey.[3]
Athletics
Mountain Lakes High School competes in the Colonial Hills Conference which is comprised of eighteen public and parochial high schools covering Essex and Morris counties in west central New Jersey, under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA).
Mountain Lakes High School is well known for its athletic program as well. Its two major sports are lacrosse and football. In 2006, the lacrosse team made it to the state finals. The boys lacrosse team won the NJSIAA Group I State Championship with an 8-6 win over Madison High School.[4]
The football team came into the state tournament ranked sixth in their bracket, and proceeded to beat #3 seed Glen Rock High School 35-21 in the first round and seventh-ranked Cedar Grove High School by 14-9 in the semifinal game.[5] On December 1, 2006, Mountain Lakes fell to top-seeded Bogota High School 28-0 at Giants Stadium, in the North 1, Group I state championship game.[6]
