Nieve penitente

Name given to a peculiar form of snow blades and pinnacles caused by differential ablation under dry and sunny climatic conditions. They are usually found on high mountain ranges, mainly the Dry Andes and the Pamirs, often in the tropical Andes, Tropical African Glaciers, the Sierra Nevada of California and occasionally in the Alps, the Rockies and Himalayas.
