The Wikipedia guidelines for categorizing musicians: WP:MUSCAT
- Cleaning-up Category:Welsh musicians creating various Welsh music related categories. I then discovered the categorization guidelines, and was inspired...
- Category:Oboists previously had no sub-categories for its 50 or so names. Fixed - 40 new categories created.
- Category:Violists previously had no sub-categories for its 70 or so names. Fixed - 76 new categories created.
- Category:Bassoonists - 25 new categories - and, after a comment by User:Badagnani, I added List of bassoonists to try and retain the usefulness of being able to see all bassoonists on Wikipedia on one page, as you could before the category was "processed".
- Category:Harpists - 56 sub-categories
- Category:Flautists - 81 sub-categories
- Category:Tubists - 29 sub-categories
- Category:Cellists - 118 sub-categories
- Category:Trombonists - 61 sub-categories so far
- Category:Horn players - 25 so far, in progress
Various other categories created for other instruments as I go through - more work needed in most of these areas.
- 1 Category:Harmonica players
- 4 Category:Keyboardists
- 4 Category:Multi-instrumentalists
- 8 Category:Percussionists
- 24 Category:Pianists
- 2 Category:Quena players
- Plus 226 "parent" categories for all these to fit into e.g. Category:Fooian classical musicians by instrument or Category:Fooian musicians by genre
- And some "tidying" of the existing category trees when I spot problems.
Other
- Tidied up Category:Musicologists (130 or so names, creating 22 national sub-categories).
- Some Welsh categories created e.g. Category:Buildings and structures in Wales by county, Category:List-Class Wales articles
- I also keep an eye on Special:Wantedcategories and create some "wanted" categories (12 so far) or, more often, recategorising articles to existing categories as necessary.
- Some other music-related categories, such Category:English marching bands and its category tree, and Category:Compositions by Guto Puw.
To do
- finish off Category:Trombonists by checking and emptying the (nationality) categories into (nationality+genre) categories.
- finish off Category:Horn players
- then find some more music categories to do in the same way.
- For a change (!), try and sort out the
it was 220 but 30 articles also referred to colleges so were easy to sort out190 or so names in Category:Alumni of the University of Oxford, which should contain few articles, only sub-categories of college alumni.
