The ATX/FLC was a 3-speed automatic transaxle produced by Ford Motor Company from 1981 through 1994. It had a lockup torque converter and no overdrive. This transmission is also known for it's pump to whine on acceleration. The ATX was updated to the computer-controlled F-4EAT transmission in late 1990. The plain ATX continued production for the 1991 only Ford Taurus, 1991-1994 Ford Tempo and Mercury Topaz.
