New Braintree is a town in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 927 at the 2000 census.
History
New Braintree was first settled in 1709 and was officially incorporated in 1775.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 54.0 km² (20.9 mi²). 53.6 km² (20.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it (0.72%) is water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 927 people, 318 households, and 267 families residing in the town. The population density was 17.3/km² (44.8/mi²). There were 328 housing units at an average density of 6.1/km² (15.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 99.14% White, 0.22% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.11% Asian, and 0.43% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.32% of the population.
There were 318 households out of which 41.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.4% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 16.0% were non-families. 13.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.92 and the average family size was 3.14.
In the town the population was spread out with 29.3% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 29.7% from 25 to 44, 26.6% from 45 to 64, and 8.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 102.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.8 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $54,844, and the median income for a family was $60,417. Males had a median income of $41,477 versus $26,136 for females.
