Chernihiv (Чернігів in Ukrainian) is an ancient city in northern Ukraine, the central city of Chernihivs'ka oblast'. Some common historical spellings of the name are Polish: Czernichów, and Russian: Чернигов, Chernigov. Population 295,500 (2004).
