Declined. Your article appears to be a joke. It might be a wonderful entry in Uncyclopedia, a wiki where jokes and parodies are highly encouraged. But sadly, Wikipedia requires a stodgier, more factual tone in its articles, and your comedic efforts cannot be rewarded here. Patstuarttalk|edits 00:20, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Juan "Johnny" Báez

Born on April 14, 1935, Juan "Johnny" Báez, the most notable survivor of the 1950's-1960's Río Piedras, Puerto Rico Cardinals basketball team, was an active basketball player from 1953 to 1969 in Puerto Rico's Superior Basketball League. A graduate of the University of Puerto Rico High School (UHS), he was the League's Most Valuable Player in 1957, 1963 and 1964, when he reached his career high of 523 points in one season. Before retiring as an active player, he reached the 5,000-point mark. While pursuing a college education in Spain, he also played extensively for the Real Madrid basketball team that won the "Generalísimo" Cup in Spain in the 1960's. Among his top fans was then Prince of Asturias (and current King of Spain) Juan Carlos de Borbón. He represented Puerto Rico in the 1958, 1962 and 1966 Central American and Caribbean Games, made the All Star Team during the 1959 PanAm Games in Chicago and coached many teams after his retirement. He was inducted in the Puerto Rico Sports Hall of Fame.

Although seriously ill, he was able to briefly attend in a wheelchair, along with wife Irma, his son Carlos and daughter Irma, a ceremony held in his honor on January 20, 2007, which attracted San Juan, Puerto Rico Mayor Jorge Santini, Puerto Rico Senate President Kenneth McClintock, Puerto Rico Olympic Committee President Hector Cardona, PR Sports and Recreation Secretary David Bernier and several top International Basketball Federation (FIBA) officials who traveled to the island for this event in which Puerto Rico's top sports award, the Puerto Rico Olympic Medal of Honor was bestowed upon him.
