U.S. Marine Medium Infantry.

Intro

<Medium infantry />

refers to ground troops, less heavily armed and armored than heavy infantry, but more so than light infantry. In the modern age, medium infantry has largely been replaced by mechanized infantry.

In the US Marine Corps, medium infantry battalions are comprised of three medium infantry companies, which are made up of three medium infantry platoons and an assault gun platoon. They are armed with LAV 25 wheeled armored personnel carriers and Javelin ATGMs. [1]

The US Army's new Stryker brigades fill a role between light and heavy infantry, and are essentially medium infantry. When equipped with the Stryker mobile gun system, these units have much heavier firepower than traditional light infantry, but lack the M2 Bradleys and M1 Abrams and M113s that heavy infantry brigades use.
