Star-Crossed (Tru Calling)
Template:Infobox Tru Calling episode Star-Crossed is the sixth episode of the first season of Tru Calling. It’s a case of “Juliet and Juliet” as Tru investigates the suspicious deaths of two high school students after their car plunges off a cliff.
Review
This episode opens with a high school girl packing quickly and telling someone on the phone that she loves them. This is obviously someone that Tru will save. The scene then changes to Tru, talking with her Boss about her “gift”. She seems relieved that she finally has someone to talk to it about without being thought of as crazy. Davis seems to suspect that Tru is saving people because ever since she started working at the morgue, less people have died. He is willing to help her figure out what is going on and why she can help others, as well as help her save people. This new bond between the two seems to help Tru accept her gift and Davis feel needed.
During Tru’s first time through the day, Lindsey gets demoted because she refuses her boss’s advances. Tru has a horrible first date with Luc and is called away to the accident scene. It appears that the two teens, Jen and Adam, were in love. This was a “Romeo and Juliet” relationship as Jen was on scholarship and poor and Adam was from a rich family. These two were never to mix in the school.
As Tru relives the day, Davis helps her find the teens to be saved. Tru risks her life to stop the two from dying, as she puts herself in front of the guardrail that Adam and Jen are heading for in a car race . This is not the last we see of the teens, as one very small detail was missed by the audience and Tru as well. Tru is saving more than the teens on this trip through the day.
She also helps Lindsey from losing her position at work because she rejects her boss’ advances. Tru convinces Harrison to meet Lindsey at the restaurant she is meeting her boss for dinner at. This foreshadows what happens next, as Tru walks in on Harrison and Lindsey getting intimate on her own couch.
Once again the writers have dazzled the audience with a “never going to happen” relationship actually happening. Finally, Tru saves herself from a horrible date with Luc, by changing tables in the restaurant, but alas, Tru must leave to save the teens as she realizes that Jen was not wearing the necklace at the race that she was wearing when she died. Again we watch as Tru has to fumble her way through explaining her hasty departure to Luc without having him lose interest in her. As Tru races to save Adam and Jen, she sees Amy, Adam’s rich girlfriend kiss Jen. It is at this point that we realize that it was Amy and Jen planning on running away and in love. Tru enlists Jen’s Brother to take her to find Jen and Adam. It is Jens Brother that attempts to scare his sister and almost pushes Adam’s car off the very cliff that he died at. Tru convinces Jen’s brother to stop bumping Adam’s car by telling him that Jen is in love with Amy. This is what saves Adam and Jen. The audience is still left wondering about Luc and Tru until the very end when the heroine herself is saved by a first kiss from her new beau, Luc.
This was the most interesting episode yet. As the writers added many twists and unexpected outcomes, the audience was left guessing until the very end. This is the type of episode that should keep unsure viewers interested and the loyal viewers happy. It was refreshing to see the story unfold and the unexpected occur.
