Pierrefort

Pierrefort is a French commune, situated in the department of Cantal and the region of Auvergne.

Geography

Pierrefort is situated between 600m and 1400m of altitude, in the meridional part of the department. The commune belongs to the Carladèz area. At 15km, it's possible to access to the neighbourgh department of Aveyron.

Climate

It usually snows a lot during the winter season. In the heart of summer, the heat can reach 30° quite easily. For 5 years approximately, we can observe systematically a dryness from may to august. The fields used to be very green 10 years ago and characterized the department.


Administration

Since march 2001, the mayor of Pierrefort is Louis Galtier.

Economy

  • Agriculture and breeding (bovine essentially)
  • Craft industry is still very present : Carpentry, renovation of houses, services of creation and maintenance of gardens ... * Familial, summer and winter tourism.

Jean Todt, executive director of the Ferrari Formula one team , was born in Pierrefort.
