U.B. Funkeys is a personal computer game for young girls and boys. Play consists of a personal computer game that works together with over 40 figures that represent characters in the game. Gameplay is fostered through the interaction between players placing figures in the Hub, which in turn appear in the game. Each U.B. Funkey figure when connected to the UB Hub allows players to unlock new areas of the game. U.B. Funkeys were exhibited by Mattel® in February of 2007 at the New York Toy Fair [1] and released by Radica Games.
Definition of U.B. Funkeys
Funkeys are small, colorful characters that inhabit Funkeytown, in a virtual world called Terrapinia, where they live. Players navigate a number of zones and portals where they play games to earn coins. With their coins they can buy items to customize their Crib.
Each Funkey provides the ability to move to new areas of the PC game when it is connected to the UB Hub, so users progress through the game as they collect different figures, including members of distinct species such as Xener, Bones, Vroom, Deuce, Sprout, Stitch, Glub, Fallout, Wasabi, Lotus, Scratch, Twinx, Tiki and Boggle.
History of U.B. Funkeys
In Terrapinia there was an original Codex that meticulously catalogued all of the different Funkeys throughout Terrapinia. Believed to be thousands of pages long, this Codex was once required reading for all school aged Funkeys.
The original Codex, and the vast knowledge of Funkey culture that it contained, was lost in the Great Disaster. The current Codex is an ongoing project of Mayor Sayso, with the goal of recovering all of the information that was lost. The first Funkeys were the Tiki and now there are several other Funkeys that are descended from this original Funkey.
Explanation of U.B. Funkeys PC Game
The Funkeys game consists of zones of gameplay that allow the user to collect coins that they can redeem at the store within the game. Players proceed to decorate their individual Cribs with items they have purchased through the accumulation of coins they get from playing in Game Rooms and traveling through the Portals and zones, interacting with distractions along the way. Leaving their Crib, players are taken to the Grand Funkey Station where players can search and view other users’ Cribs.
U.B. Funkeys Characters
Xener Xener means traveler in Funkey. In the late 40th century, Funkeys were obsessed with space travel. They spent millions of coins on missions that accomplished very little. The last flight mission crashed and remains intact to remind them of this frivolous program.
Bones The Bones are what they are. They don’t hide their feelings or thoughts from anyone. It’s easy to get under their skin making them often grumpy and disgruntled.
Vroom The Vroom have an instinctive love for anything fast and dangerous. Their natural mechanical skills and enthusiasm for showing off have given them the reputation of being the most daring of all of the Funkeys.
Deuce Fond of all things hip and trendy, the Deuce set the standards for cutting edge culture. In fact, the phrase “What the Deuce” means what’s hot and “That’s Deuce” means that’s cool.
Sprout The Sprout are always precisely prim, particularly proper and the most purely polite of all of the Funkeys. The Sprout have perfectly manicured lawns, elaborate gardens and showpiece homes.
Stitch Funkey folklore reports it like this: A long time ago the Stitch were trusted with the great secret of the Great King Funkankhamun of the Golden Age. The Stitch evolved to having lips sewed shut, an eye for danger and no heart so that they can never be tempted to tell their secrets.
Glub The Glub are extremely agile and elegant when submerged but on land are like a fish out of water. The Glub speak in a strange bubbling, slurping way that most Funkeys find difficult to understand. But oddly enough, the Glub have the most beautiful singing voices.
Fallout The Fallout are the mad scientists of Terrapinia. They are constantly seen conducting strange experiments. Mad, oh yes, because Funkeys are always asking them what they are doing and interrupting their “important” work and, more notably, because their experiments rarely work.
Wasabi Naturally stealthy and skilled in the ancient art of Funk-Fu the Wasabi are extremely secretive and rarely speak. Always appearing silent and composed, their aloofness is often misunderstood and sometimes feared by their fellow Funkeys.
Lotus Lotus are extremely calm & peaceful Funkeys and have an intense connection to the planet, the Great Mother Terrapin. Lotus are friends to all wildlife and have the ability to communicate with many different types of animals.
Scratch The Scratch discovered early on that they had the power of music. In the Time of Troubles, during the Funkey Wars of the 3rd Funkazoic Era, they used this power to disable their enemies. Masters of Music, whether techno, hip hop, or rock, when the Scratch start to spin tunes, all other Funkeys are compelled to dance.
Twinx Twinx means “star” in Funkey and the Twinx embody this word. The Twinx have achieved celebrity status in Terrapinia. Like the Amazons on Earth, the Twinx are all female. But don’t let their beauty fool you, the Twinx are a strong & proud race. Legend has it that the Twinx captured all the power of the moon and the stars in their big beautiful eyes.
Tiki The Tiki are believed to be the first Funkeys to inhabit Terrapinia. All other Funkeys evolved from the Tiki. The first Tiki crawled out of the primordial soup and walked on land over a million years ago. Hunters and gatherers, they quickly became the dominant species. While once fierce warriors, the Tikis now live an almost Zen-like existence and despite their ferocious look, modern Tiki are vegetarians.
Boggle The Boggle are eating machines. They’re highly advanced digestive systems can process anything from the most poisonous spiders to raw iron. The Boggle break down any material and excrete a pure, sweet substance, similar to Peanut Butter, that is a staple for all Funkey diets.
Games of the U.B. Funkeys
Each of the Funkeys has their own game that they like to play. These are located inside their Game Room in their Zone. When a player enters the Game Room, they can either play the Funkeys game, or buy items at the store desk with their coins. Each game room has unique items to purchase that can only be bought there.

You need 7 set points to win.

Click on the levers at the lower corners of the screen to destroy everything in sight. But you only get to use them once so use them wisely.

Move the mouse up and down to select the amount of power, then click to throw the ball. After releasing the ball you can guide its movement down the lane with the mouse.
