Tay Zonday

Tay Zonday (born Adam Bahner) is a 25 year old singer, songwriter and vocalist. He is the singer and writer of Chocolate Rain, a popular song which has turned into an internet meme. He has appeared on the Opie & Anthony Show[1],Best Week Ever[2], the popular blog "Vin's Fucking Uncensored Blog", and Jimmy Kimmel Live,[3] which his performance received mixed reactions due to Zonday's mannerisms and unusual deep voice.

Reactions

The Austrialian Daily Telegraph says: "Tay Zonday has written perhaps the most listened to song in the world right now"[4] People Magazine wrote: "He's scored a YouTube hit with his repetitive, keyboard-driven "Chocolate Rain," and after a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Tay Zonday's star is shining even brighter."[3] According to People, such professional musicians as John Mayer and Tre Cool have expressed admiration for the song, or have covered it. AC Media's "Dark Wizard" says: "Tay Zonday is now an internet star whether you love him or hate him, you cannot deny his musical talent."[5][6]

Biography

Tay Zonday is a graduate student from Minneapolis, Minnesota. He has said that growing up, his parents did not allow him to listen to popular music. When music downloading services such as Napster came around, he began to secretly build a small collection of mp3s. He described himself as a "musical orphan," having no influences and not feeling particularly connected to any musicians or bands.[7]

Tay has not released an album, but has released a number of singles.

Singles

His most notable single is entitled Chocolate Rain. He has also performed covers of "Rainbow Connection" and "Never Gonna Give You Up".[6]
