The Virgin of Montserrat is also known as the "Black Madonna". Said to have been carved by St. Luke it is unknown how it arrived in Spain. Legend has it that the Benedictine Monks couldn't move it so they built their cathedral around the statue. Because of the mysteriousness of the statue it has become a spot of pilgramage. The "Black Madonna" is located in the back of the cathedral surrounded by a golden alter
