Double Fine Productions is a computer game developer founded in July of 2000 by Tim Schafer after his departure from LucasArts. He started Double Fine with a mixture of personnel from the Grim Fandango development team and new employees.

Double Fine's first completed project was a multi-platform game titled Psychonauts. Critically praised, it was available for the Xbox, PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Windows.

On September 8, 2006 it was announced that Double Fine had entered into a publishing agreement with Vivendi Games for an as yet unnamed title. The game will be a "brand new creation" and will be published under Vivendi Games' Sierra Entertainment label.[1]

In an interview with Tim Schafer, conducted by a British newspaper The Guardian, he briefly talks about his next project saying, "Our next game is a labour of love, and I want to work on it for many years, and it's a very personal project, but it'll still have lots of explosions." and "It is awesome and it is new." [2]

The name "Double Fine" comes from the Golden Gate Bridge being a "double fine zone"—the company is based in San Francisco.

The official Double Fine website is also host to four webcomics, which are created by members of Double Fine's art team and are collectively referred as the Double Fine Action Comics.

On August 18th, 2007 The International House of Mojo ran a story (that has been since retracted[3]) regarding the details of the next Double Fine game. It has been confirmed by 1UP in an interview with Tim Schafer that the title of the new game is Brutal Legend. According to Tim Schafer, the game announcement will not happen at the Leipzig Game Conference. [4]
