Ella Habiba Shohat is an Israeli author, activist, orator and Professor of Cultural Studies and Women's Studies at the New York University, of Iraqi Jewish heritage.[1] Ella Shohat was born in Israel to a Baghdadi family. In the past she was an activist in a number of Mizrahi leftist movements. She currently lives in New York. [2] Her work includes award-winning books and numerous anthologized essays. Her writings were translated from English into French, Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, Turkish and German, inspiring a young generation of scholars, artists and political activists.[2]
