The following are amusement park rides and attractions that have been closed. Most were closed down years ago, with no known plans to reopen them.

American Attractions and Parks

Freedomland

  • Park in the Bronx, New York City, 1960-64. Over 200 acres in the shape of the United States, the park originally had a simulated-history theme. In its last years it became more of a conventional amusement park, then closed under competition from the 1964-65 Worlds Fair. Site is now "Co-Op City" high-rise development.

Anheuser-Busch

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay

  • The Monorail: closed and removed in 1999
  • The original brewery was demolished and Gwazi was built in its place
  • The Python: closed October 31, 2006 and demolished as part of a renovation of the Congo area of the park

Busch Gardens Williamsburg

  • Drachen Fire: Closed after five seasons due to roughness and was scrapped in 2002 after no buyer for it was found.
  • Le Mans Raceway: Closed July 5, 2006, in order to make room for the construction of a new roller coaster.


SeaWorld Ohio

  • Park was sold to Six Flags who then merged the park with Six Flags Worlds of Adventure, now Geauga Lake

Paramount's Carowinds

Paramount's Great America

  • Stealth: Relocated to Paramount's Carowinds in 2003

Paramount's Kings Dominion

  • Apple Turnover was removed for the original Hurricane Reef expansion in 1992.
  • Diamond Falls was closed due to roughness in 2002; demolished in 2005 and will be replaced by the Italian Job Stunt Coaster in 2006.
  • Freefallin' and a kids area in Waterworks were removed at the start of the 2004 season to make room for the Italian Job Stunt Coaster.
  • King Kobra
  • Lake Charles, which hosted shows in the early days of Kings Dominion, was partially filled in during the early 1990s to make room for Kings Dominion's water park. As of the 2005 season, part of the lake still remained.
  • Lion Country Safari was closed after the 1992 season; the area the monorail station was located in was rethemed to Congo and (as of 2005) is now an empty field.
  • Time Shaft / Haunted River / Smurf Mountain: removed to make room for the Volcano roller coaster
  • Mount Kilimanjaro was removed in the early 1990s and replaced by Volcano and Flight of Fear in the later 1990s. [1]

Paramount's Kings Island

  • Screamin' Demon: Moved to Camden Park in West Virginia in 1988. It closed in 2001.
  • The Bat: removed after four seasons due to technical problems
  • King Cobra: closed after the 2001 season due to expensive maintenance King Cobra was dismanted at the start of the 2002 season.

Six Flags

Six Flags Astroworld

  • Park closed at the end of the 2005 season and all rides were removed.

  • Hay Baler and Sky Whirl Removed for Deja Vu
  • Metro
  • Power Dive (Replaced with King Chaos-((Inverter ride))).
  • Reactor
  • Rolling Thunder (Relocated- Area is now Southwest Territory/Hurricane Harbor entrance)_
  • Shockwave(Replaced by Superman)
  • Southern Cross (Removed for White Water Landing/Roaring Rapids)
  • Tidal Wave removed for Batman The Ride
  • Traffique Jam (Removed for White Water Landing/Roaring Rapids)
  • Yukon Yahoo
  • Z Force (relocated to SFOG and SFMM. Replaced with Iron Wolf)
