Toms River Regional Schools

Toms River Regional Schools is a public school system primarily located in Toms River, New Jersey. The district incorporates the boroughs of South Toms River, Beachwood, and Pine Beach with the major township of Dover. The area, with approximately 115,000 residents, most of which in live in Dover Township (Toms River), has roughly 19,000 students enrolled in the regional school systems 18 schools. It has been renowned by many to be among the most sucessful and influencial school districts in the state. The Superintendent of the school system is Micheal J. Ritacco. The district is the fourth largest in New Jersey (after Newark, Jersey City, and Patterson) and the the largest suburban district in the state.

The District has three high schools (North, South, and East), as well as three middle schools (West, East, and South). Intermediate South is scheduled to open in Beachwood in Sept. 2005. Intermediate East and West (Grades 7-8) are currently the two most populous middle schools in New Jersey at 1,600 and 1,400 students respectively. The three high schools are comprehensive education centers that have gotten national recognition for athlethic and academic performance. High School North has about 2,500 students, East has 1,800 and South has 1,400. Toms River Regional also has 12 elementary schools.

Dover Township, or Toms River, is not to be confused with Dover, New Jersey, which is located in the Northern area of the state. Toms River is located along the Jersey Shore.
