Slipknot (album)

Slipknot is the official debut album by Slipknot (Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat was their first, but was released independently). The album was released on June 29 1999 by Roadrunner Records. A digipak version was released on March 7 2000. This was followed by a "clean" version which was left completely uncensored, and contained a note in the booklet claiming censorship as being "the absolute fascism of America". Frail Limb Nursery and Purity were removed as they are based on a crime scene fictional story, and due to copyright infringement, they had to take the songs off the album and replace them with Me Inside. The iTunes version of the album has "Eeyore" listed and downloadable as a separate track. The clean version was released on March 14; the digipak was re-released on August 9.
The cover of the album simply shows the band members in their masks and boiler suits.
In 2001 Q magazine named Slipknot as one of the 50 Heaviest Albums of All Time.
The genre of the album is often debated. Musically, it combines elements of alternative metal with hardcore and rapcore music.

Album Trivia
This article contains a list of miscellaneous information. (June 2007) |
- Although James Root is credited as a guitarist alongside Mick Thomson, all of the tracks except "Purity" were recorded by former guitarist, Josh Brainard. Josh left shortly after recording the album and it's he who appears on the album cover, not James.
- The title "742617000027" comes from the UPC of Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat.
- In the second track, "(sic)", one can hear a sample of someone shouting "Here comes the pain!" This clip was taken from a scene about 30 minutes into the movie Carlito's Way, spoken by Al Pacino (playing Carlito).
- The song "Diluted" is a heavily edited version of "Interloper", which first appeared on the unofficial demo commonly called Crowz and also appears as a b-side off the digipak version.
- The songs "Interloper" and "Purity" were included on a limited edition of the re-release of the album.
- The song "Purity" is a heavily edited version of "Despise", which appeared as a bonus track and on the Roadrunner Records Demo.
- The song "Eyeless" was covered by British deathcore band Bring Me The Horizon for a compilation CD given away free with Kerrang! magazine in 2007. The cover version uses the same Amen break introduction from the original track. The song has also appeared on an episode of The Sopranos where AJ his doing is homework, then Meadow comes and helps him.
