Ytterøy Church

Ytterøy is an island in the Trondheimsfjord, Norway. It is administered as part of the Levanger municipality (since 1963), and a ferry runs regularly between the quayside at Levanger and the island.

The island has an approximate population of 500. It is 13.5km long and 4.3km wide at its widest point. It has a total area of around 28 square kilometers. At its highest point it is 210 meters above sea level.

The name

The Old Norse forms of the name was Ýtriøy and Øyin ýtri. The meaning of the name is 'the outer island' (related to Inderøy).
