Florence King (b. 1936) is an American writer, essayist and columnist. While her early writings focused on the American South and those who live there, King’s works of late have been published in the National Review. She supports Conservatism, but not the Fundamentalist Religous Conservative political movement. While greatful for her fan base, she considers herself a misanthrop.

King, who now lives in Seattle, Washington, is native of Washington, D.C. Florence King received her B.A. from the American University located in Washington D.C. She also attended the University of Mississippi, as a post graduate student. The majority of King’s works under her own name have been non-fiction essays. She has written Barbarian Princess under the pseudonym of Laura Buchanan. King has also stated that she has written numerous pornographic stories and paperback books and erotica under various psudonyms. Her book, Confessions of a Failed Southern Lady was a semi-autobiographical work, focusing on her grandmother and the influence she had on King's life.
