Anthony Blake

Anthony Blake (b. 1968) is the Founder and Executive Director of Milestones Educational Consulting, Inc., a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, which was established on June 5, 2006. Milestones' mission is to help disadvantaged students reach their full academic and social promise. Blake works closely with independent school administrators, education advisers, placement agencies and families, to encourage students to discover and pursue their passions and life goals while striving for academic excellence. Blake focuses on each student's personal assets, to enable students to develop, distinguish and market their personal brands. Blake, is an alumnus of both The Boys Club of New York (BCNY) Independent School Placement Program, founded in 1957, and A Better Chance, founded in 1963. BCNY and ABC are the first organizations to place inner-city boys and girls into some of the finest independent boarding schools throughout the United States of America.
Biography
Blake grew up in New York City and attended public schools until he earned an academic scholarship from The Boys Club of New York and A Better Chance to attend the American Boychoir School (ABS) in Princeton, New Jersey. While at the ABS, Blake traveled across the United States and Canada singing secular and non-secular music in over four languages, and performed as an alto on the George Frideric Handel Messiah album recorded at the National Presbyterian Church, Washington, D.C., December 15-20, 1980 with the Smithsonian Chamber Players. Upon graduation from ABS, Blake attended the Kent School, Kent, CT where he received his high school diploma, and also earned varsity letters in football, basketball and lacrosse.
Blake landed an internship upon graduating from Kent School to work as an order clerk for Prudential-Bache Securities on the floor of the American Stock Exchange, and at the conclusion of the internship Blake decided to take a year off from college to stay on as a full-time order clerk. Blake entered college a year later and went on to receive his B.S. from New York University, Stern School of Business in 1992, and M.A. from New York University, Steinhardt School of Education in 1995. Mr. Blake also found time to join Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and served as President of his chapter during his senior year of college. While in graduate school Blake also worked as a Graduate Assistant for NYU President L. Jay Oliva.
Blake began his teaching career in 1993 in Bedford-Stuyvesant as a K-6 grade computer teacher, where he taught over 750 students annually, coached basketball and with the assistance of his students published Motivation, a magazine written and edited by 5th & 6th grade students. Blake left P.S. 305 after three years to work for the The Boys Club of New York, and for ten years he placed and supported hundreds of inner-city students in over seventy-five independent boarding schools.
