Garden City High School is the public high school in the affluent town of Garden City, New York. The current principal of the school is Dr. Frank Banta. Approximately 1,000 students attend the school, with each grade consisting of approximately 200-250 students. The athletic teams are known as the Trojans. They are known for their excellent athletic achievements in lacrosse, field hockey, football and baseball.

The School

Garden City High School continues to be accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Annual reports submitted to these organizations regarding program, facility, equipment, and staff has continued to fulfill necessary NCA requirements. Beginning 1998-99, Garden City High School will begin a five-year cycle to remain accredited by North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. However scores among regents and other tests have gone down in recent years, which continues to be an issue in Garden City High School and in the school district.

Advanced Placement

The Advanced Placement Program is an internationally-recognized program administered by the College Entrance Examination Board of Princeton, New Jersey. It consists of college-level courses and exams that give high school students the opportunity to learn a subject in greater depth, utilizing analytical reasoning and disciplined study habits, and to receive advanced placement/or credit in college. Approximately 350,000 students participate in the AP Program each year.

Drugs and Alcohol

Drugs and Alcohol have been a big problem in the Garden City High School. In a recent survey taken by the students in 2006, over 90% of the students have used drugs or consumed alcohol. Other Interesting statistics included: 96% have consumed alcohol 79% have used drugs 20% have gotten the alcohol from brothers and sisters 55% have used fake Identifications 13% have received it from the faculty at the school.

However, there are rumors among students that many lied when taking the test as a joke.

Sports

Garden City has always been known for its excellence in athletics. Garden City High School lacrosse, field hockey, and swimming are one of the few top teams in New York State. Other sports teams such as the football team and beer pong team are well known for their excellence.

Also, after a random surveys given in 2006, the results showed that 68% of the athletes and one point in their high school career used illegal substances ranging from Performance Enhancing Substances to Drugs.
