"New Friends (Undergrads)"

New Friends is the fourth episode of the short-lived animated television series Undergrads.

Plot Synopsis

After Mump gets carpal tunnel syndrome after hacking into the Ben & Jerry's mainframe to change "Captain Kirk Crunch" to "Chocolate Chip Chewbacca," Gimpy loses the support of his friends as they move over to the side of Gimpy's Nemesis, "Number One." Gimpy and Number One decide to settle their differences by playing a round of "Quake" but with all of Gimpy's friends being on Number One's team, Gimpy is forced to enlist Cal and Rocko to be on his team despite never having played the game before. Meanwhile, Nitz's birthday is approaching and when his friends seem to abandon him due to the aforementioned Quake game, Jesse helps him meet her friends. But, Nitz still feels guilty about leaving his friends to play Quake by themselves...

Trivia

  • The Star Trek episode which Gimpy and Spud mention is incorrect, it is actually episode 77 not 78.
  • The game played to determine who is number one between Gimpy and Spud is Quake III Arena.
  • There are multiple references to the Stanley Kubrick film Full Metal Jacket. The training sequence where Gimpy says, "the first and last words out of your mouth will be sir!" is from the barracks lineup. The scene where Gimpy confronts Cal paying with his joystick controller in the bathroom is a parody of when Private Pyle polishes his rifle in the bathroom. When Kruger plays on the computer he states angrily, "I'm gonna suck out your eyeballs then I'm gonna skullfuck you!" Gunnery Seargant Hartman says this line to intimidate cadets.
  • As Spud is about to kill Gimpy he says, "I have you now." Darth Vader says this line when he is about to shoot down Luke. After Nitz saves Gimpy, Nitz says to Gimpy "You're all clear, kid! Now let's blow this thing and go home!" This line is a direct reference to the original Star Wars film (Where Han Solo says it to Luke Skywalker before he destroys the Death Star). The next scene imitates the Star Wars scene where Leia presents Han, Chewie, and Luke with medals.
  • The rules that are listed on the wall in the State U computer lab are as follows:
    • NO - Food or Drink
    • NO - Roughhousing
    • NO - Hitting Computers
    • NO - Backstreet Boys
    • NO - Crack and/or Pot
