Northfield Laboratories Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLD) is the maker of PolyHeme, a hemoglobin-based oxygen carrier (HBOC). The company is based in Evanston, Illinois, with Dr. Steven A. Gould as its Chief Executive Officer. As of May 31, 2005, the company had 68 employees. It was founded in 1985 and has since been a mainly Research and Development company. Although having no real product on the market yet, Northfield Labs is currently in the process of bringing PolyHeme, an oxygen-carrying blood substitute, closer to FDA regulatory approval and to the market.
