Willamette High School
Willamette High School is a school in Eugene, Oregon.
Willamette, or "Wil-Hi," is located in the Bethel-Danebo area of west Eugene, and is the only high school in the Bethel School District. Willamette High opened in 1949, four years after several rural elementary school districts north and west of Eugene consolidated into the Bethel district.
Wil-Hi's school colors are maroon and white, and its students use the nickname Wolverines. In sports, Willamette competes at Oregon's Class 5A level, in the Midwestern League.
In recent years, the Willamette girls' basketball team has been one of the top-rated teams in the state. On March 10, 2007, the Wolverines won the 5A state girls' basketball championship - Wil-Hi's first state team title in any sport since the Boy's Track and Field team in 1985.
Blues musician Curtis Salgado, who inspired John Belushi to form the Blues Brothers with Dan Aykroyd, is a 1971 graduate of Willamette High. The Blues Brothers movie character Curtis, the orphanage janitor (played by Cab Calloway), was named for Salgado.
