The multiwiki XFF project seeks to mimimize collateral damage due to blocks of users that use a single IP ISPs. When thousands of users share the same IP via their ISP, such blocks can be very disruptive. ISPs that report trustworthy XFF headers can be added to the trusted XFF provider list by a developer. The client IP of such headers will be treated as the user's actual IP, allowing for precise blocks of users operating under the ISP.

Proxies will be added to the trusted XFF list when they come to our attention if they:

  • Have a reverse DNS entry that implies their dedicated use as an ISP proxy, and
  • Primarily forward for public IP addresses, not RFC 1918. See /RFC 1918 for a list of proxies which forward for these addresses.
