Television Malta
Television Malta is the national television station of Malta. TVM is operated by Public Broadcasting Services Ltd (PBS). PBS Ltd is state owned.
TVM broadcasts a mixture of news, sport, entertainment programming and teleshopping. It is funded through a mixture of a television license and commercials. The majority of programmes broadcast on TVM are produced externally of PBS. PBS publishes details of the types of programmes it wishes to broadcast on TVM and production companies provide PBS with a detailed report of their proposal for the programme.
Most programmes are broadcast in Maltese, however the Maltese speak both Maltese and English so English also features, mainly in UK imports. British programmes screening on TVM in 2007 include Parkinson, Absolutely Fabulous, Rosemary & Thyme as well as various children's programmes. There are also programmes dedicated to the learning of Italian and the English language feed of EuroNews is also broadcast daily.
TVM's news programming is the most popular on the islands and is the only TV news not provided by a political party. "L-Ahbarijiet TVM" is broadcast nightly at 8pm as well as various short updates throughout the day. There is also a sign language version and "TVM News", a summary of news in English, both broadcast once daily.
It has been recently given the honour of the local TV station of the year.
Presentation
In 2007, TVM got a new look, designed by Maltese agency monolith. All TVM idents, bumpers, news and weather programming was created by Monoloth.
The new TVM logo (Below) represents the Maltese flag (half of which is white, the other red).
