Monte Vista High School is a four year public high school in Danville, California. It is a National Blue Ribbon school from the Blue Ribbon Schools Program as well as a California Distinguished School. Its mascot is the Mustang.

There are four Vice-Principals at Monte Vista- Aida Hodzic Glimme, Kathy McCarthy, Matt Chamberlain, and Rick Aistrope. Bob Stewart was the fifth Vice-Principal, but he retired summer of 2007. Another recent vice principal of Steve Brady for freshmen.

Its cross town and primary sports rival is San Ramon Valley High School. California High School is their other rival school because it is in the same school district as Monte Vista.[1]

Athletics

Monte Vista's Track and Field Team has done considerably well. Beating many school records at several meets, Monte Vista has done very well in the past two years. They were almost undefeated in EBAL dual meets, and won the EBAL Championship in 2006, beating out cross-town rival San Ramon Valley High School. With promising talent from Bhavik Kanzaria, Brett Zorich, Drew McCallister, Christopher Krychev, and many others, Monte Vista's Track Team has will to dominate.

Monte Vista's women's tennis team has prospered through the years. In the Women's 2005 year, the team won in the East Bay Athletic League (EBAL) and placed second at NCS, losing their match to their biggest tennis rival, Foothill High School. Mia Giovinetti advanced to the finals of the individual EBAL tournament, and in doubles the freshman duo Sheena Chaudhuri and Elena Cadet won the doubles tournament of the EBAL finals. The MV tennis team also placed an overall 5th out of over 60 competitors from schools across the state of California at the annual Peach Tree Tournament in Fresno.

Monte Vista's women's golf team has surpassed any expectations in the past couple years. Being the first public school to win back to back titles (2005 & 2006) in the East Bay Athletic League (EBAL), North Coast Sections (NCS), and CIF Northern California, the girls of the Monte Vista High School golf team are one of the best teams in the state. Traveling to Southern California to represent Northern California, the girl's golf team was led by four strong members shooting all under scores of 80. The team's is led by starting four All -League players Michelle Hatsushi ('06) and Jane Lee ('08) (both "top 10 players to watch for" in the Bay Area) , Jordan Ontiveros ('09), Sunny Zhang ('06.)

Monte Vista's Men's Lacrosse team have been NCS and EBAL champions in 2004, 2005, and 2006. They traveled to LA and San Diego for the First Four tournament in 2005 and 2006. In 2006 their record was 18-1, losing only to La Costa Canyon, the back to back Southern CA Section Champs, in the First Four. Ranked by LaxPower as #1 in CA, and a National Ranking of 37th. Have had 3 All-Americans Tyler Westfall '05, Ryan Westfall '06 and Kyle Donovan '07.

In 2006, the Monte Vista Men's Soccer team won NCS for the first time in school history. Led by goalkeeper B.J. Burns, and 8 other All-League starters, the team was considered to be one of the best the school had ever seen. They had to defeat Livermore, De La Salle, and Richmond in the playoffs en route to their first Section championship ever. In addition to winning NCS, they were also champions of the notorious East Bay Athletic League, one of the best leagues in the country. In 2007, the Men's team repeated as both EBAL and NCS Champions. In 2007, the Mustangs became back to back NCS and EBAL champs with a perfect 19-0-7 record. With a first round bye, they beat Richmond, Washington and then Cal in the NCS final.

Monte Vista is one of 22 schools that have a pep flags team. The pep flag squad performs at rallies, and at half-time during football games. They take part in the Miss USA camp that helps prepare the team members for the year. They have competed nationally against the other pep flag squads.
