Talk:Beirut
I wasn't sure why it was necessary to specify that Brooklyn is in New York City which is in New York, so I removed the last one. I feel it reads better like that and there is still enough information under the link for anyone who does not know what Brooklyn or NYC is to find out easily enough. I'd be happ to discuss it, however. Nevilley 07:25, 8 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Sophmoric US drinkers
":There is a drinking game which is alternately referred to as either "Beirut" or "Beer Pong." This is just too dumb to stay at the head of an encyclopedia article on Beirut. If you hate to lose it— anyone!— find a place for this "information", if you are convinced of its encyclopedic value. --Wetman 22:47, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Hey, come on. Drinking culture is an extremely important topic to millions of US college students and alumni. And yes, this is _INFORMATION_, just like the information on the city Beirut. The beauty of Wikipedia is that it contains info on things that other online sources might disregard, such as sports, and topics of colloqial interest. Shall we also remove the references to the card game or the football/soccer club from the disambiguation page for Hearts, since they dilute the information about the human organ? One sentance at the begining of this article does nothing to detract from the integrity of this article or Wikipedia EN as a whole. Reinserting the disambiguation. Rethcir 04:14, Jan 27, 2005 (UTC)
- Just too bad that it does have to be so obtrusively at the heading of an article. Wikipedia is certainly the most democratic activity I have ever participated in! I can almost smell the beer... --Wetman 04:44, 27 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- I suggest "Paris of the Levant" instead of "Paris of the Middle East". The former sounds much better (and was the original expression, I think).
