Säffle Municipality (Säffle kommun) is one of 290 municipalities of Sweden in Värmland County, in west central Sweden. Its seat is in the town Säffle.

Säffle was the last local government unit in Sweden to get the title of a City in 1951. In 1952 the system with different types of municipalities was made obsolete, but it formally existed until 1971. The present municipality was created in that year, when the city was amalgamated with the surrounding rural municipalities.

The municipality covers a peninsula in Lake Vänern, and has a large fresh water archipelago.

Värmlandsnäs

Värmlandsnäs even called "Näset" is a big and important part of the municipality. The area which reaches out into middle of Vänern as a big peninsula is very significance of the economy by their produce of pork. The area supply more than 200.000 people with pork.

Näset also have a wonderful archipelago on the east side. The boat people talking very nice about Millesvik Archipelago (Millesvik Skärgård) who also have a lot of old rune stones and other ancient monuments.

From Ekenäs harbour you can take the tourist boat to Lurö a small island in Vänern. At Lurö you can dining and stay over night. The host at the island will take care of his guests and give them enjoyment of the countryside and some appreciation of beauty.

Many people who visit Värmlandsnäs at the summer time of the year wants to take a swim in Vänern. The opportunities are many and good. At Ekenäs you will find a very nice bathing place. From this place you almost can walk all the way out to Lurö. Other populair bathing places are "Ekôrn" and the bathing place at Örud nearby Öre Harbour (Örö Hamn).

When Sweden was a poor country and the gold rush started in America a lot swedes emigrated to America, it even started long time before that time area. A genealogy have found out that one of the most famous actors in amerika, Julia Roberts have her roots at Värmlandsnäs.

Next story is a modern fairytale and the person is still alive and all of it is true:
An emigrated brother visit his brother in Gaperhult, Värmlandsnäs and feel bad for his old brother who have to drive at a poor and bad road every time he have to buy something back home. He decide to do something for his brother and when he get back home to America he donate $1.000.000 to build a new road for his brother and the people who live at Värmlandsnäs. Next year he visited his brother they could take a trip at the new road "Dollarvägen" (The Dollar road).

Chocolate

The People of this municipality have rather Delicious Chocolate, though it is difficult to ascertain what, if any, is available at first glance. Only by Delving into each respective house can one rummage through various cupboards to find the Creamy treasure within.

But be warned, this action can enrage a local Swede, causing them to transform to a creature that is more beast than man, and devour your very soul.

The municipal commissioner of Säffle Municipality is Daniel Bäckström and he was elected in 2006. He represents Centerpartiet.
