Kim Possible Epsiodes?

Question - There are some episode pages that are being reverted to redirects and a couple newer editors are getting tetchy about the redirects happening before they can expand the pages. While I generally don't support 'make a stub page!'-itis, in this case it's hard to expand the episode list page enough to spawn a child episode page. It's come up on List of KP eps. Any ideas? I'm for letting the pages start as stubs and then hacking them down. -- Ipstenu (talkcontribs) 02:09, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fear not the clown, and smile! :)

Smile a little, smile a little, all along the road;
Every life must have its burden, every heart its load.
Why sit down in gloom and darkness with your grief to sup?
As you drink Fate's bitter tonic, smile across the cup.

Smile upon the troubled pilgrims whom -pass and meet;
Frowns are thorns, and smiles are blossoms, oft for weary feet.
Do not make the way seem harder by a sullen face;
Smile a little, smile a little, brighten up the place.

Smile upon your undone labour; not for one who grieves
O'er his task waits wealth or glory; he who smiles achieves.
Though you meet with loss and sorrow in the passing years,
Smile a little, smile a little... even through your tears!

Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Have a beautiful day, my dear insomniac! :)

Article on "XIAXUE"

Hi,

I'm from Singapore. I found the article on "XIAXUE" deleted and protected. "XIAXUE" is the online persona of a certain notorious Miss Wendy Cheng from Singapore, a very controversial minor celebrity in Singapore who is well-known and appears frequently in the Singapore press, tv & radio programs and popular magazines. She is (in)famous for her outspoken and politically incorrect views on her blog at xiaxue.blogspot.com as well as on TV talk shows.

I think the page should not be deleted and she deserves an entry (despite her unpopularity with certain segments of society).

I hope the page can be reinstated.

Best regards, OIRVM

There have been a number of WP:BLP issues with this page. If you would like to contest this deletion, please refer to Wikipedia:Deletion review for instructions. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 08:26, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another admin, Vague Rant, undeleted the article per my request on IRC. Having won several prestigious blogging awards and been frequently mentioned in the Singaporean press, Xiaxue's clearly notable. A post on her blog, dated 11 June, indicates that she is unhappy with the deletion. I e-mailed her to notify her that the article has been undeleted; she replied requesting I help her rewrite the article. All I need is someone with Newslink who will e-mail me lots of Straits Times/New Paper articles on her, and I can start rewriting the article based on information found in the newspaper articles. --J.L.W.S. I recently put in a request for a Peer re-Review of the article, which seems pretty well-written. I think I might have constructed the new peer review the right way, but it keeps redirecting towards the old peer review, which was archived. User:86.131.161.117

You just recently banned User:86.131.161.117 for "repeated vandalism to various articles" yet when I looked at his contributions it only regesters him having edited a single article; Ed Shaughnessy also I noticed that he had not been warned, his user talk page is conspicuolsly non-existent. That does not seem to be per WP:BP. Was the the IP of a convicted sockpuppeter or somthing? -ĬŴΣĐĝё 22:23, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Early in the year, you blocked this school IP for vandalism. Due to the fact that they can edit and vandalize more, I request that this school IP be blocked an extra year. I, myself, go to this school district, and I am saddened by their vandalism. Help out the kid no one likes... D: --Ihitterdal 23:03, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New template - Collapsable Wikiproject boxes

Check out the Talk:Rickey Henderson page. Is there already a default "collapse" template available? I couldn't find one but it seems like it is worth creating. The template would be called collapseboxstart with another collapseboxend. Content goes in the middle. Using these for talk pages with lots of WikiProject templates (like the Rickey Henderson article) just seems to make sense. Ideas? Timneu22 23:06, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Input on User:Edtropolis

Hi Cant sleep, IMHO you're one of my favorite and best admin here so I just wanted to ask your opinion on what to do with the user in question. He is a newer user and frequently contributes on WP:AfD. I too work in that field and his reasoning etc. are very frequently non-pertinent to ANYTHING in the article. Many other AfD patrollers, in addition to myself, have messaged him about it but he has not ceased in his erroneous edits. I am not requesting admin intervention, I would just like some advice on a course of action that would help in guiding the user. Thanks in advance for your help. User talk:68.61.207.127

First off, like many others, I love your name. I've seen it around a while and thought it was the best I've seen so far. I hope the pine nuts helped to keep the clown at bay. As well, I like your page. Back to business...

I see you reverted edits by said user on the Murder page. When I checked, I saw no notice on the talk page, other than Martinbot's polite message 'If I deleted anything bad let me know speil,' about an edit on another page. It looks to me like it was you who made the revert on the Murder page and not a bot, so there is absolutely no question that the user committed an act of vandalism, and no chance for the user to explain multiple edits of vandalism in multiple sections. Something on the order of a level 2 or higher warning is appropriate in my opinion. Although this may be a proxy or dynamic IP, I feel it's important this be noted somewhere. I predict your answer will be, 'if you feel strongly, do it yourself,' or something to that extent which I may do. It's just that I didn't want to place anything on User talk:68.61.207.127 since I didn't do the revert and thought that maybe you were going to. Please let me know your intentions before I proceed. Your are awesome! Thx. SteinAlive 07:22, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have the heart?

I noticed you did a bit of cleanup to Doreen Bird. This article is an obvious prod as per not-notable, but the sole editor (other than you and me and one other cleanup-er) is so passionate about his or her former teacher, and that together with the fact that the subject died a couple years ago, I just don't have the heart to prod it. Brentwood Elementary School

Please remove the protected redirect, which you added, to Brentwood Elementary School. It has been protected for nearly 4 months now, and really, there is not point in redirecting it to the Mead School District. Actually, the page can just be deleted, and then recreated when someone has sufficient info to write an article.

Also I do believe this was an accident, but I had posted about this before (towards the end of June) about the same thing, requesting the removal of the protected redirect, but my message got deleted with your "old news" on 7/5/2007 without having been addressed, replied to, or having any action taken.

Thanks, Jdubman 06:39, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please see WP:REDIRECT#What do we use redirects for? If someone is looking for information about this school, they will be redirected to the district page. This is a legitimate use of a redirect and need not be deleted. Thank you, Can't sleep, clown will eat me 20:26, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I understand. If and when someone has the information to actually write an article on the school, the redirect can be removed right? Jdubman 20:39, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that is correct. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 20:40, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Most recent common ancestor

I am requesting that you restore the 'articles for deletion' page for Most ancient common ancestor because I didn't have a chance to comment or tell 'my side of the story.' Quite a number of the comments made against the article were due to a misunderstanding of the topic by the commentators. Perhaps most disturbing was the presumption of a grammatical error in the cited sources, when clearly that was not the case...Ryoung122 02:42, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In addition to many not understanding what this article meant...clearly not a reason to delete it...I noticed that in the voting at the bottom, only a plurality (not a majority) favored deletion.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Most_ancient_common_ancestor

I suggest re-opening debate. Otherwise, I will have to go to the next step, a request of deletion review. Note that not only were there '118' hits, the idea itself is important. Many persons have been erroneously led to the incorrect notion that 'Mitochondrial Eve' was 'Eve'...this article helped explain why that notion was wrong.Ryoung122 02:48, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have come to the end of my tether. The campaign by User:Mallimak and his countless dynamic IP sockpuppets has now descended to pure stalking behaviour. Article on Anthony Chidiac

Hi Clown will eat me. Your page made me giggle. Very Funny!! Just wondering, I'm new here and my first article I was working on by direction of my Lecturer about Anthony Chidiac lacked all the right tags and talk page to be properly included for Wikipedians to add/edit on. As such, it got deleted and then you speedy deleted it when I re-added an old revision of it back up so myself and others can work on it.

I was wondering if it was ok to repost the article in my user page back up to the proper spot, albeit I am adding all the right tags to it so that it encourages contribution and others will be able to contribute to source material too. This guy is notable and his achievements will spark a wealth of other information being written about some of his work with digital audio in the early days. I have been asked by others who want to contribute to add it back so they can also work on it - its a bit hard to do so when I try to tell them to point at my user page and its all too messy. Could we give it a try please? I'm really sure the article will really develop into a concise and comprehensive article about an Aussie Pioneer. Thankyou in advance for your thoughts and - oh...clowns RULE!!! :) --T3Smile 12:12, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi :) I see you blocked 67.150.0.0/16. I just wanted to tell you that 2 IPs from that range requested unblock earlier today: User talk:67.150.47.234 and User talk:67.150.84.226. What was the block about? -- lucasbfr talk 00:03, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just wondering if there is some new rationale for issuing six-month blocks against ISPs. I notice that you have, for instance, blocked the address range 71.182.0.0/16 for six months (account creation) — a space of potentially 65 thousand addresses, dynamically allocated by Verizon internet services (a very large ISP in North America). This seems excessive, particularly given the IP range block guidelines at Wikipedia:Blocking_IP_addresses#Range_blocks. Silly rabbit 15:46, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, should you not at least send *bloodspiller* a message on his page explaining why he was blocked? I have recreated his userpage with the message that he is indef-blocked, I hope this is ok. Also - while I fully trust your capabilities and choices as a sysop, are you entirely sure an indef block was the proper course of action? It was an isolated incident, spurred by the offence he took at the insulting of his recently (and rightfully, indeed) deleted article, Glitches in The Elder Scrolls IV:Oblivion. (see here.) Fair use rationale for Image:Weirdo Magnet - Buck 65.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Weirdo Magnet - Buck 65.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Query

Hi there! I have another question for you. During the AFD for Anna Svidersky, the article Mourning sickness was essentially written as a rewrite or a replacement; indeed, many people in the AFD suggested a rename or refocus. I don't believe that the outcome of that AFD should be to now have two articles on the topic, rather than the one we started with. I've asked somebody else about this and the article on Anna does appear to be a memorial, a coatrack article, and would be in breach of people known for only one event. Given the opinions given in the AFD, I don't think it's necessary to repeat the debate again in order to merge or redirect this article. What do you think? >Radiant< 08:21, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Arguments were gone into at length in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Anna Svidersky (2nd nomination) as to why Radiant's suggestion was not appropriate. The community consensus was to "keep" this article and he should respect that, instead of trying to impose a unilateral action. I believe it is right to have both articles. They are not synonymous but contain different elements, although there is an overlap. This has all been discussed. Tyrenius 19:14, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Putting Holes in Happiness article

Why did you delete and protect the article for Marilyn Manson's "Putting Holes in Happiness" single? Not only is there an official France radio single (complete with a maxi-single cover) but the official standard single has been confirmed to be released on September 3, 2007, as reported on August 7, 2007 by Billboard.com. R-Tiztik 08:13, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you review the deletion logs you will see that I have protected but not deleted this article. This page was recently listed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Putting Holes in Happiness and subsequently deleted. The billboard.com link provides little to substantiate a Wikipedia article, but I will be revising the page so that it redirects to Eat Me, Drink Me in the future. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 08:21, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know what it takes to keep permanent semi-protection on an article (it has been holding on horse for months, now, fortunately), but if you can lend an hand and either reprotect or give me advice on how to convince the wikigods to permanently reprotect, I would appreciate it. Proxy issues

What is wrong with using a proxy? Why are you keeping legitmate accounts from using these? The official policy states "It may be either difficult or easy for a motivated individual to connect your network IP address with your real-life identity. Therefore if you are very concerned about privacy, you may wish to log in and publish under a pseudonym."[7]. Where is the policy that says users cannot use proxies? Dave Winer edit war

Hello CSCWEM. If you are inclined to do anything administrative about this edit war, you are most welcome to do so. I just filed a request for semi-protection at WP:RPP. Ryulong, who has often helped out in the past, seems to be on Wikibreak. Thanks, EdJohnston 23:16, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This might warrant full protection until the dispute is resolved. I'll see if I can find Ryulong on one of the admin channels. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 23:18, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your response. Just for clarity, calling it a dispute is perhaps giving it too much honor. It's just Nick Irelan vs. the world. He is already at 5RR for today and shooting for infinity. EdJohnston 23:25, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Two uninvolved admins applied protection at the same minute (protect-conflict!) and the address has been blocked for the agressive editing thing. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 23:32, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Can't sleep, clown will eat me, I thought you may want to know that I've unprotected 4Kids Entertainment, as it came up as RFPP, and barely any edits had been done to the article. Permanent North American Gaeltacht

Please review this: I was dismayed to see my 'Permanent North American Gaeltacht' article had been deleted, after all the hard work I put into it. I was personally at the opening of the TEACHING site (where our school and museum will be) where we got an official recognition letter from Eamonn O Cuiv, Mary McAleese, and TG4 was present. I resent being called a crank for telling the truth. I am from Tamworth (the actually site; Erinsville is the closest town), I speak Irish (tá sin fíor, bhíos ag caint as Gaolainn nuair a bhíos óg, fuaireas cursa Gailge san ollscoil (i dToronto), agus canaim amhráin sean-nós) and I live on a hill called Bailehack since the 1700's (why this is anyone's guess). It in the news: (http://www.gaelport.com/index.php?page=clippings&id=1974&viewby=date), (http://www.daltai.com/events.htm) list it, (http://www.lennoxandaddington.com/buzz/arch.cfm?a=showone&EID=41) shows it, here is the official invitation (http://tribes.tribe.net/diasporagael/thread/247c1da6-f749-42e6-9508-604737b5e63a). It's disappointing to see that all my hard work in making an information page about my own town has been deleted by people who don't look fully into things (not to be snide, but how do people living in Cork know about going on's in a town of only a few hundred in Canada?). I would REPOST this, if only the page name had not been blocked. If necessary, I can provide more transcripts of the letters we received on our opening to convince, or maybe a picture of me by the official gaeltacht roadsign? I didn't realize my small article about something a few speakers from kingston build across the road from me would blow up like this. I would request that you re-open the deletion review (although I doubt I can get my page back now, so just being able to repost this would suit me). Many local Irish speakers I know were very disheartened to see even wikipedia had turned its back on us, having only just won a 15+ year battle to gain official recognition. Danjdoyle 16:55, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have opened a discussion about the gaeltacht article on the directed page. Hopefully everything is in order; I've never had to do anything in this manner before. Danjdoyle 17:43, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I have restored the article history with {{deletion under review}} code pending the outcome of the discussion taking place at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2007 August 17#Permanent_North_American_Gaeltacht. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 04:33, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Range block

08:29, 15 August 2007 Can't sleep, clown will eat me (Talk | contribs) blocked "58.172.0.0/16 (contribs)" (anon. only, account creation blocked) with an expiry time of 6 months (anon block)

Are you serious? That's a /16 range: a fifteenth of the allocated range for the ENTIRE of NSW for this ISP. About 2 million users will be affected by this block over its lifetime - and it's ineffective unless you apply it to 58.160.0.0-58.175.0.0[1]. Most of our contributions are from anonymous users, and you choose to reward them by blocking two million of them for six months because of one idiot? I'm sorry, but that's obscenely inappropriate, no matter what vandalism was being done from that IP. Furthermore, the appropriate block time was 24 hours, maximum - before you start resorting to immensely excessive SIX-MONTH blocks. If you need us developers to implement a change-size limit for anonymous, or other types of users, then we will do so (I'm working on it as we speak). But don't go blocking millions of users because you can't deal with somebody text-dumping a few times.

Anon-only blocks

Hey -- I've noticed several unblock requests lately due to blocks of yours on IP addresses that you implemented to be not anon-only blocks. In most cases, I couldn't figure out why that was needed for what looks like routine vandalism. I don't want to get into specifics, but could you please give me an idea of your philosophy on the issue? When do you do this as opposed to allowing an anon-only block? In general, would you mind if I changed these blocks to anon-only if it seems appropriate to me? Thanks. Mangojuicetalk 04:28, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is rare that I hard block an IP address for any significant length of time (more than 3 days). I trust you to do what makes sense, but please do feel free to contact me on my talk page or via email if you have any questions regarding any long term blocks. Thanks, Can't sleep, clown will eat me 06:47, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Something weird is going on with that account. For awhile, he was reverting edits from the vandalbot, but then he changed over to blanking pages and the like. Unfortunately, when you mass reverted him, you reinserted a lot of the vandalbot edits. I've started to undo your reverts from the oldest edit up. -- Gogo Dodo 06:38, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Paired vandalism, lovely. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 06:39, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Seems sort of like that. I wonder if that account is owned by the vandalbot controller? Perhaps something to be on the look out for. Like I said, in the beginning, he was doing vandalbot reversions, but with a really weird edit summary like he was naming the vandalbot network. Then he started targeting non-vandalbot edits from anonymous IPs, replacing the entire page, but still "naming" things in the edit summary. Very weird. Anyways, I went through all of his edits cleaned up all of the rollbacks you did that reinserted the vandalbot edits. -- Gogo Dodo 06:52, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There is no doubt this was intentional based on the timing. Thanks for your help.  :-) Can't sleep, clown will eat me 06:54, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think you need to step in here

Remember Anna Svidersky? There's still some discussion on the talk page about it. One user made an elaborate analysis of everybody's arguments, showing an obvious consensus towards a certain change, in addition to the fact that the old version violates several policies. However, the people who wrote the article (and have been systematically reverting changes to it for over a year) object on the grounds that "the AFD was closed as a keep, therefore you may not modify the article". I would appreciate it if you could make it clear to them that no, an AFD keep does not preclude editing; alternatively, I suppose you could amend your close to make this clear. Thanks for your time. >Radiant< 15:10, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: January 18 redirect pages

Given the amount of vandalism/good faith edits on these pages (1-18-08, 01-18-08, 1/18/08) by anonymous users, would you be opposed to semi-protecting the pages until the redirects need to be deleted (e.g. when the official name of the movie is released and movie sites change the trailer names)? It could very well be just the same user who was displeased with the RfD result coming back to re-edit those pages as well, though. Thanks for your time. There are thousands of useful external links available on the internet, but that does not mean they belong in an encyclopedia article. Hello and Help

I keep getting bumped off wikipedia and refered to your page as the reason. Please provide ideas as to why this may be happening since the reasons given never seem to have much to do with anything that I understand. I use AOL, which I understand may have something to do with something, but the getting bumped off occurs when I log on then try to edit, but is unpredictable, except that it happens when I first log on and if I keep trying to log on it will eventually take. Today I do not have the patience to keep trying to log on. Please Provide Helpful Feedback. John5Russell3Finley 18:52, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Greetings! Curious about this: [14]. I notice you blocked the range indef, but the same banned user has been active tonight from the range, so I blocked it again (only 3 hours, since I was unaware of the history here). Why was he able to edit? Am I missing something here? Do indefs not work on ranges? Cheers ... Antandrus (talk) 04:04, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well the range should not have been blocked indefinitely, so thanks for fixing that. As to why someone was still able to edit... I'm not sure, that part doesn't make sense. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 04:06, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You removed the list at Jheri curl and I just did the same at Mohawk, which was arguably even more silly. Would you watch the page? I have a feeling I will be reverted. --David Shankbone 12:43, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can we also delete the list of famous Chihuahuas? Or does that have a far more serious, encyclopedic tone than the list of people with mohawks and jeri curls?--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back 12:49, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There's a difference between something as fleeting as a hairstyle, which almost anyone can have for a moment or two, such as in the case of Roger Bogard-Adair, and something that can never change itself, such as a breed of dog. I don't feel all lists are equal. But I would support removing the list of famous mustach wearers, mohawk wearerers, "list of famous people who have worn bell bottoms" etc. --David Shankbone 13:40, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I seem to be blocked...

Hi... my IP range (68.193.158.113) seems to have been blocked by you. I'm not too familiar with the Wikipedia blocking system, but as far as I can tell, it's an "anon-only" block. Obviously I can still post while logged in, but it's not always convenient for me to do so, and I'd really appreciate it if this was lifted, seeing as I didn't do anything wrong. I wouldn't be making a big deal about it if it was temporary, but the screen I keep seeing says that it's blocked until February, 2008. So if you could do something about this, or at least let me know what the heck's going on, I'd appreciate it. Thanks. Con587 15:51, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please help me out...

The user Rollosmokes has recently been reverting many changes to the WNBC article, (I believe he did it on other articles, but I have only recently been involved with the WNBC article) whether vandalism or not, simply because he does not like them. When I have asked him to use the article's talk page to discuss these changes, since there is some opposition to them, he lashes out at me with things like, "Who suddenly made you an administrator, because you sure enough sound like one. But you aren't. Just leave me the heck alone and worry about yourself." I have talked with him about this issue in the past, and have gotten similar responses. (You can find our most recent exchange here.)

Since he clearly won't listen to me, could you please talk to him? If you look at the WNBC article revision history, you'll see what I mean.

Britney Spears images

I noticed you deleted an image I uploaded without bothering to explain why. I gave reasons as to why the image would be considered fair use. I can only assume you found a similar image that is pulic domain to replace it. I look forward to seeing this. Xoxixox 18:39, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Lack of licensing information. Images in category "Images with unknown source", "Images with unknown copyright status", or "Images with no copyright tag" that have been in the category for more than seven days, and which still lack the necessary information, regardless of when uploaded. Note, users sometimes specify their source in the upload summary, so be sure to check the circumstances of the image.
  • Invalid fair-use claim. Non-free images or media that fail any part of the non-free content criteria and were uploaded after 13 July 2006 may be deleted forty-eight hours after notification of the uploader. For media uploaded before 13 July 2006 or tagged with the (template) template, the uploader will be given seven days to comply with this policy after being notified. Invalid fair-use claims may be tagged with (template) for review after a seven-day period, and the uploader may be notified with

Also the rationale behind deleting the image is "i4" meaning you should have tagged the image as unsourced, and then speedy deleted it if no action was taken after seven days. Please explain why you did not do this. Xoxixox 00:36, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize for posting at the top, I assumed that was where to post because the previous most recent edit was there. However I would appreciate a response rather than simply deleting my comments. Now that they are at the bottom of the page, I see no reason to delete them, and certainly no reason ot to address them. Xoxi 09:56, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not upload non-free images to articles which already contain freely useable articles. If you have any questions regarding this, you are free to take it to Wikipedia:Deletion review. Thank you, Can't sleep, clown will eat me 09:57, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Advice needed

I turn to you, an acknowledged awesome vandal fighter, for recommendations on vandal fighting tools to speed up the process. I have been having a go at vandal fighting, but much of the time, by the time I have spotted a likely vandalism at recent changes, gone to the page in question, looked at the edit history and diffs to determine that it is in fact vandalism and to select a good version to revert to, and added even RVV to the summary if it is a simple undo, someone else has beat me to it. Much of the time, the successful reverter does not post an incremental warning at the vandal's talk page, meaning that they may get away with 12 acts of vandalism before they accumulate the magic 4 warnings required to go to the Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism page and request a block. I see various vandal fighting tools in the form of Java scripts, which may require a fair amount of registry editing, the use of Firefox rather than IE, and even may require disabling ZoneAlarm. Are there any you recommend or caution against using? Thanks! Edison 21:39, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Discovery Institute

Edit warring? WTF? You mean legitimate editors reverting POV statements from Discovery Institute anonymous sockpuppets constitutes edit warring? Give me a break. OrangeMarlin Talk• Contributions 16:44, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your concern, but would you rather the article not be protected? Can't sleep, clown will eat me 17:39, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, I would not want it to be protected. I would rather be able to edit the article if it needs upgrading. If a sock is involved, I'd rather catch them at 3RR, have them blocked, and be done with it. The article is contentious, and if we blocked every evolution/creation article, I'd have nothing to do. Again, personally, I think articles should only be protected when legitimate editors are getting out of hand. An anonymous sock doesn't qualify as legitimate. But of course, I think we do too much censoring around this project, so I may be the wrong person to give an opinion. OrangeMarlin Talk• Contributions 17:49, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article is dead, it has zero content.

Surely deletion is the proper fate, rather than redirection to a page aboutr its town. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mayalld (talkcontribs) 21:45, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Troll meme?

[15]

How is this a 'troll meme'? Looks to me that it's just soapbox crap and avndalism. I'd have blocked too. I just haven't seen any memes like this. I know about ceiling cat, kitten huffing, I CAN HAZ CHEEZBURGER, shoop da whoop, and all that, but never about Islamic apocalyptic nonsense. —Crazytales (t.) 18:31, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The trolling took place in a memetic fashion. Either way... ;-) Can't sleep, clown will eat me 18:33, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Still, Mohammad Akram R lives under a bridge. As well as being prone to religious excogitations that would give a bad name to legitimate Muslim editors. Good call on the block. —Crazytales (t.) 18:35, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rey Mysterio

I'm thinking the page should be at least semi-protected, what do you think? As I already said on the article's talk page, everytime I've logged into Wikipedia in the past week I've wound up having to revert vandalism edits. I'm not sure how to go about protecting or semi-protecting a page, though; should a request for protection be put in? Is there a template for semi-protecting a page? etc. etc. much obliged if you can get back to me (preferably on my talk page). Th 2005 18:42, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Revert limit

I have a couple of questions about my revert parole. Is the 1 revert per day or per week? Is it 1 revert per article or in general (i.e. I make a revert in one article, and can't make a revert in another one). Also, one of the policies of WP:PW is to not include PPV match announcements that haven't aired on TV or wwe.com/tnawrestling.com, would removing these spoilers count towards the 1RR limit? I don't want to accidentally violate the terms of my parole. TJ Spyke 01:01, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is not my area of focus, but I would interpret it to suggest priority should be placed on discussion rather than reverts; never mind the length of time. Wikipedia:Resolving disputes offers good advice in this regard. Hope this helps, Can't sleep, clown will eat me 05:35, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You reverted the Mesoropi article for valid reasons. As one who believes in good faith edits, I have modified the Mesoropi article to make it more neutral point of view and to try to include some sources. I have also left a note on the recent editor's talk page explaining why the reverts took place. Obama semi-protection

Would you consider setting an expiration date for the sprot you applied to Barack Obama? It looked to me as if recent incidents were being effectively managed using vandal revert+warning followed by targeted blocking that does not block edits from unregistered and newly registered users. Did you see it differently? Check Talk:Barack Obama#Protection, where editors are still seeking consensus on the appropriate duration for temporary/indefinite sprot. If libel is a concern, can you point me to any policy pages where those concerns are discussed in regard to public figures? Many thanks. --HailFire 05:28, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The dumpster

I noticed you have been moving pages to User:Can't sleep, clown will eat me/dumpster and then deleting them as speedy G7. While some of these pages probably deserved to be speedied for other reasons or AfDed, or could be successfully PRODed, I can’t imagine that this method can be considered in keeping with the spirit of that section of the speedy policy - having the page as a subpage of yours does not make you the author or primary contributor, or give you the right to delete it without debate or a real reason other than your whim. In accordance with WP:ADMIN, which suggests that grievances against admins should be taken to the offending admin first, I am asking you to please explain how this is a justifiable course of action. To me, it just looks like a blatant abuse of the system. --WikidSmaht (talk) 06:07, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That is clearly not the case with some articles, Homecoming Upset, for example, and if were true in general, then the move log of User:Can't sleep, clown will eat me/dumpster would have all the times that articles were moved back after being cleaned up. There are only 5 entries for pages being moved away from the dumpster, whereas you have deleted it significantly more times. Besides, you don’t need to move an article anywhere to delete revisions. --WikidSmaht (talk) 06:29, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pizza page formatting issues

With regard to the changes you made to the pizza article on Sept 7. Wouldn't it be better to fix the formatting problems rather than simply revert all the edits that have improved the article - you've re-established all the repetitions, picture clutter and flow problems that existed before. At least let me know what the formatting issues are so I can fix them. Shoebill2 09:34, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

I reverted the page back to how it was before you reverted it on Sep 7. I appreciate that there are formatting issues but the appropriate response is not to revert the page but to correct the formatting issues. Please see the Wikipedia Help page on reverting which states among other things that:

  • If you feel the edit is unsatisfactory, improve it rather than simply reverting or deleting it.
  • Reverting is used primarily for fighting vandalism, or anything very similar to the effects of vandalism.
  • Do not revert good faith edits. In other words, try to consider the editor "on the other end." If what one is attempting is a positive contribution to Wikipedia, a revert of those contributions is inappropriate
  • Generally there are misconceptions that problematic sections of an article or recent changes are the reasons for reverting or deletion. If they contain valid information, these texts should simply be edited and improved accordingly. Reverting is not a decision which should be taken lightly.
  • Do not revert changes simply because someone makes an edit you consider problematic, biased, or inaccurate. Improve the edit, rather than reverting it.

I think these points are relevant in this case because many useful improvements to the piece were removed by you by reverting the article. I politely ask you to help fix the formatting problems rather than simply revert it again. if you don't want to do that or haven't got the time then please list the formatting problems on the pizza discussion page and I'll be happy to have a go at fixing them myself - with the help of another member, this process has already begun. I apologise for any formatting problems I've caused - I'm not hugely computer literate but I do know some useful things about pizza and I think it is better to make a stumbling contribution to Wikipedia than to leave out useful contributions because I might make a formatting error.Shoebill2 13:19, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You recently reverted this user's blanking of vandalism warning on his User Talk page, and he blanked it again. That's just him taking the piss out of us, but his constant edits seem to be pretty bad faith edits. A look at his Contributions indicates some pretty wanton vandalism. This edit pretty much is a personal attack. I am thinking that the account was created for some Friday Nite Fun for those a tad too young to drive. Maybe he needs to find another venue to occupy his weekend, as Wikipedia doesn't need any more fools this evening?
Sorry for all the prosifying. Can we ban this ass-hat? - Arcayne (cast a spell) 02:21, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking email

Can't sleep, clown will eat me, I've noticed that you seem to be blocking users and automatically disabling their ability to send email. Per WP:BLOCK, "This option should not be used by default when blocking an account, but rather it should only be used in cases of abuse of the "email this user" feature.". Disabling a user's ability to send an email, when no abuse has occurred, limits their ability to make legitimate unblock requests. In the future, please refrain from instantly implementing this feature. Thanks, - auburnpilot talk 05:27, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would appreciate the courtesy of a response, as it seems you've continued in your blocks against policy.[16] [17] [18] [19] [20] [21]. If there's a reason for this, which I seem to be missing, fine. Otherwise, you need to stop. - auburnpilot talk 20:47, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you are aware of reason that a perpetual troll meme / vandal-only account needs to email anyone using the MediaWiki email function, please do let me know. I will look into amending this policy if necessary. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 20:48, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You have no right to implement your own blocking policy. The policy of this project is that you will not disable a person's ability to send email using the MediaWiki function unless it has been abused. If you have a problem with the policy, I'm sure you can find your way to the relevant talk page. However, you cannot simply disregard official policy because you don't like it. - auburnpilot talk 20:51, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Day of the Lone Wolf - Astrid Williamson.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Day of the Lone Wolf - Astrid Williamson.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Checkuser block

Could you explain this block? I think that we are blocking far too many ranges right now, and as I brought up on unblock-en-l you are responsible for hundreds of unblock requests. I was wondering your rational for this block, since you only provided "checkuserblock". May I ask who the checkuser was, completely out of curiosity? Prodego talk 00:30, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See this.

I thought the range you blocked looked familiar -- I've had dealings with this guy before. A smaller range of his has been blocked in the past, but it looks like it keeps being expanded. It also lists this -- 91.104.0.0/13 -- as the range of his IP's, so do you think you should extend the range-block? I also don't think 2 hours is enough... he came back last time after he was blocked for a day and went right on continuing. But that's just me. Gscshoyru 00:31, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely not. I've seen some of the users that we're preventing from editing by implimenting this block, and it should not be extended. --Deskana (talky) 00:35, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think we should block five hundred twenty-four thousand two hundred and eighty eight IP addresses to stop one person. This is exactly what I have been complaining about. Prodego talk 00:37, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Huh. The site makes it look like all these IP's are owned by one person. But I guess I misunderstood. Sorry, then. Gscshoyru 00:38, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
They are owned by one company, which shares them among all their customers. So for example, AOL could own a range of IPs, and assign them to their many thousands of customers. Prodego talk 00:39, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Drat. More's the pity. Well... all of his sleeper accounts were made around 13-17 of April... is there any way to go back, see which ones have never been used, and block them on the assumption that they are either sleepers, or won't be used since they've been left dormant this long? Or is that against policy, which would be understandable. Gscshoyru 00:45, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You've seen this before

Weird sense of deja vu looking at your user page. I've seen your work on other pages and it's good stuff, so it's kind of ironic that I find myself messaging you know. Sorry, I should explain.
Back in July you put a temporary block on User:Chubeat8 for his tomfoolery on the Abd-al-Aziz ibn Abd-Allah ibn Baaz. Well apparently he's back with a vengeance, as can be seen on that article's talk page. He and some of his sock/meat puppets, aside from launching a series of attacks on my integrity as an editor rather than proving the validity of their edits, have also been Wikistalking me, searching as far back as four months on some articles and even reverting grammatical corrections and intentionally inserting spelling errors on one occasion. I've opened up a case at Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Chubeat8 and figured, since you're at least a bit familiar with the guy's work, that you might be able to add a valuable two cents in. It was initially sparked by some comment he made on the talk page about a clown eating me. You popped into my head but I didn't know until a few minutes ago that you once had to put a temporary block on the guy. Any help you can give would be much appreciated, thanks so much. P.S. You may want to think about archiving your talk page because it's mad long. MezzoMezzo 01:23, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Old SALT vs New SALT

This is mostly an FYI to you as an admin who still uses the old, templated method for salting pages. That method of salting pages is depricated, and the template is now up for deletion. While things can still change, the current discussion definitely looks headed towards deletion. Assuming that this happens, you will no longer be able to salt pages with the old method, and will need to begin using the newer salting method that involves cascading protection on the title, and allows recreation to be blocked while still having no article at the name, leaving it as a red link. This new method of salting is centered at WP:PT, and the instructions for how to make it work are there as well. - TexasAndroid 13:01, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Can't sleep, clown will eat me. This AfD lead you to delete these six edits. There is a request at History only undeletion to have them undeleted. Would you please address this. Thanks. -- Jreferee (Talk) 08:47, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy do!

Do you have a real quick second to answer a question? I was recently adding references to Calvin (name)‎, and I noticed that the person, Gaius Licinius Macer Calvus, redirects to Licinius Macer Calvus. I'd like to make the main article be at his full given name, and redirect the other one to that, sort of flip-flopping them. I know that cut and paste moves are bad, but can they be done in this case, since I can't simply move the article, as the desired name already exists as a redirect? I would check and remove any double redirects, but I didn't want to do this before I checked with someone who is more familiar with this type of thing, as I've honestly never come across it before. (Boy, this sure sounded easy in my head, but now that I write it down, sheesh I probably am confusing the issue, huh? ). Anyway, I saw you were around, and since I've never had the pleasure of bugging you er, ~*cough*~ requesting your assistance, I thought I would pop in and see if you wanted to advise me. If you're too busy, feel free to tell me to go away, hee hee. ArielGold 09:57, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the protection. That vandalism was getting out of hand. Gotta wonder what forum decided to go after the article this time... -- Kesh 01:26, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your opinion please?

User:Wellingtoncrusaders (talk) and I have been disagreeing on the inclusion of a certain person in the Notable people section of Wellington, Kansas. I'm asking you because, in an email sent to me earlier today, s/he wrote, "can this be referred to a higher source, to make a decision on?" so I figured that an admin would be the ideal person. Thanks for your help! Nyttend 22:57, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not an authority on this by any means, but I would think that if we have an article about the subject, and a reliable source showing that they are or were a resident, I suppose it would be reasonable to include them. My personal preference would be to categorize the actual biographical article instead though, as these type of lists have a tendency to become unwieldy. Help

Hi,

I'm a newbie. I've registered sometime ago but today is my only time to be able to learn the wikipedia. I've been trying to make an article (novena prayer to the Black Nazarene) but after I finished it, it wasn't published. Do I need any approval or some sort to make it published? I tried another strategy by putting an external link of the prayer to 'Black Nazarene' (an existing article), but it's always undone.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks and regards, Joel Protusada (joprotus) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joprotus (talkcontribs) 07:03, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking care of the ips I added. Also what is the policy/ your opinion on something like this. [22] is a repeat vandal, how many warnings should he get today before I can report him? As he has a long history. Phgao 07:29, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What the heck is a "trainwreck"?

Is it just a cute way of saying "no consensus"? I am reviewing a request to restore Sunset Elementary School on Wikipedia:Deletion review/Content review. I noticed that it was speedied for being a copyvio (restoration requestor claims to be the author of the copyrighted material). However, I also noticed that it was subject of an an AFD discussion titled Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Barbara Hawkins Elementary School which you closed as a "trainwreck".

So... what's a trainwreck and is it reasonable to restore Sunset Elementary School given that only one other article nominated in the AFD was actually deleted?

--Richard 16:02, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trainwrecks are what happen when a bundle of articles are listed for deletion under as a single nomination, of various degrees of notability, ultimately gridlocking any possibility of consensus. Seeing that the content you refer to has been released under the GFDL, I see no reason why it could not be restored. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 21:18, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Move request

Could you move List of YouTube celebrities to YouTube celebrities? A few people suggested the move at AfD, and I agree with them. I don't think it would be contested. Thanks. Ichormosquito 07:29, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting block

Hello again! Can I ask you to block the IP address 66.99.209.4 (unless someone else has blocked it by the time you read this message)? The user has been vandalizing articles repeatedly for the past few hours. --SilentAria talk 16:27, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You blocked this user indefinitely as a "troll account" after making only one vandalism edit ([23]), without any prior warning. That seems a bit harsh/bitish to me. Would you consider granting the user a second chance by unblocking him and keeping an eye on his future edits? Melsaran (talk) 21:12, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Need your opinion

Hi. After spending several days gathering information, I put together Wikipedia:Long term abuse/Madman C. I am concerned about the number and specificity of the threats this user has made, as well as his mental state. Further, I am pretty sure I have tracked down the person's real-world identity. Do you think I have enough here that we should report this to law enforcement? If so, is there some formal process that we or the Foundation can use to report this? Thanks, NawlinWiki 22:05, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Repeated Copyvio, user TCR89 probable sockpuppet for TCrEoLe89

I looked up the Brittany Daniel page and found an image that is clearly some sort of publicity photo. I noticed you had previously removed this same image posted by editor TCrEoLe89, who you had then blocked indefinitely. The image was uploaded again to Wikipedia by user TCR89 and put on the Brittany Daniels page shortly thereafter by 148.61.13.4, which would indicate the two accounts are linked in some way. Additionally TCR89 has posted several other images which almost certainly are CopyVio's... furthermore based on the fact that this specific Brittany Daniel photo was posted by user TCrEoLe89 and the similarity between the two names, it seems clear TCR89 is a sockpuppet of TCrEoLe89. Based on all this request you block user TCR89.

In the specific case of the Brittany Daniels page, user CRiyl correctly removed the image while I was in the process of writing this message, but it appears to still be in the Wikipedia image database as Image:Bdaniels.jpg. For my future knowledge in fighting CopyVio's like this, and for proper removal of the remainder of TCR89's contributions, how do you go about deleting the image properly from the database? I'm still fairly new at the whole vandalism/CopyVio fighting thing... Macboots 18:01, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This user has expressed a considerable amount of frustration at not being able to edit, and I frankly I must agree. Could you consider undoing your block on 222.153.0.0/16? You blocked it for 6 months on hard block, which seems like an awful long time for such a wide range. The user has been unable to create an account, because no one listens to him. The Evil Spartan 00:22, 26 September 2007 (UTC) In general, I must ask you to reconsider your policy of giving out long hard blocks on such ranges: 210.50.228.0/24, 202.49.134.0/24, 207.69.0.0/16, 67.181.0.0/16, 66.236.0.0/16, 71.211.0.0/16, 4.139.0.0/16, and countless others I was able to find in your blocks within the space of a few weeks. I realize you may disagree with me on this, but these blocks have the effect of making WP a registration required site, and at that, one in which one must email an administrator to do so. This is not policy (it seems to run counter WP:BLOCK), and it seems these blocks are not good. The Evil Spartan 00:29, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi CSCWEM. I would appreciate if you could respond to this, and explain your decision on unblocking or not unblocking this range. The Evil Spartan 18:14, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
These are actually soft-blocked (anon-only) with account creation disabled, not hard blocked, due to persistent and ongoing issues from these select ranges. Thank you, Can't sleep, clown will eat me 18:21, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think you should let the AfD stay open for a few more days. It was discovered yesterday that his only claim to notability is false. Arrow740 20:19, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've just finished re-writing the article to remove original research and inaccurate statements and most of the early comments in this AfD relate to the previous version of the article. I'd recommend leaving it open a bit longer as well, since the personal attacks seem to have died down and people are concentrating on the content of the article. Tim Vickers 20:32, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you both for your feedback. I am inclined to leave this closed as-is, but this does not preclude the possibility of relisting the article at a later date in an attempt to bring closure to this issue. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 20:45, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, that's fine. No reason for any hurry now the article is accurate. Having accurate but non-notable info hanging around isn't a reason to be very concerned. Tim Vickers 21:09, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please review the above AfD? You closed it as keep, and it had 11 valid keep comments, and 15 valid delete comments. Since it is suppose to be a discussion, could you review the actual arguments for each side and comment? Most of the keeps were fairly weak comments... thanks! Like you probably don't already have a big enough watchlist

Hey, you seem to have a level head, I think one may be needed to just put Shetland pony on your watchlist (what IS is about these pony articles??). Bottom line is that I seem to have ticked off a couple of young editors who now think I am evil and am trying to control everything and are reverting my edits to this article, which, well, the edit history is long, but I would suggest that I already have three horse-related articles that I led to GA status, so I think I do know what I am doing.

The first person is simply acting like a troll (went and blanked my talk page) over my fairly gentle (I thought) suggestion that rather than just deleting a poor photo, that a better one be used to replace it. (The blanked photo was pretty mediocre, the problem was the blanking of a lead image). The second person is simply mad that I don't think she needs to put her photo of her harness pony into every page on wikipedia, and it doesn't fit as a lead image, either, now that I finally found a classic conformation shot that matches up with what is used in the other breed articles.

Anyway, I will confess to a bit of snarkiness lately, had eye surgery three weeks ago, only see out of one eye at the moment, have restricted activities, spending too much time on Wikipedia, but that doesn't mean my edits aren't generally of at least moderately good quality.

My last edit to the article was this one, and I would appreciate if it could be kept more or less intact for awhile, particularly as regards NOT using the harness pony photo as the lead photo, but rather as an illustration under "uses," where it fits nicely.

Anyway, I am sort of on a short fuse about this, especially after dealing with another troll on another horse breed article not long ago, and wouldn't object to a few extra admin eyes on this article. Maybe no intervention is needed, but eyes help. Montanabw(talk) 03:43, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Delete disambiguation and redirect pages too?

Dear can't sleep,

The two pages coming from this disambiguation page have been deleted. Do we have to do an Afd or can they just be deleted? Same goes for this redirect page. Per the afds it seems the intention was to delete these pages but these specific variations weren't listed.

Thanks, Renee Renee 12:23, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adrian Bunk (page deleted)

Could this page be undeleted? The subject is definitely notable (current maintainer of the Linux 2.6.16 kernel). The Linux Kernel is the largest open source computer software project in the world, and the role of Linux kernel maintainer puts him at the top of a very short list.

The creator of the Linux kernel (Linus Torvalds) is regularly quoted in other articles in both print and electronic press. The other maintainers (including Alan Cox and Marcelo Tosatti) are also quoted regularly.

He also will affect numerous corporations across the country by controlling the flow of software fixes and changes to the Linux 2.6 kernel, including products created by and/or sold by Red Hat, IBM, Novell, Sun, and many others. These products (Linux based computer systems) are used by perhaps millions of companies world-wide.

All of this points to the fact that he satisfies the WP:BIO rules for notability, most specifically the professor test.

I also note that the deletion vote was six votes. Is this standard? I wonder how many of the voters were familiar with the Linux kernel, with open source, and with computer software in general....  DavidDouthitt  (Talk) 17:18, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For what it's worth, I wish I had seen that AfD. The current maintainer of the Linux kernel is arguably one of the most prestigious (and notable) "position" in the Open source universe. I'm arguably a "deletionist" but I think that one should have stayed. — Coren (talk) 03:53, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Inappropriate block duration

Again an inappropriate block duration has been placed on a University of Sydney web proxy (User_talk:129.78.220.7), and affects large portions of University users because only a few partake in vandalism. A precedent has already been established to use block lengths of less than six months (see User_talk:129.78.64.106#Another_inappropriate_block). Please reduce the block duration to something appropriate.

re: Bioshock semi-protect

Hi there, regarding your semi-protect of the Bioshock article, while a good move to deal with the vandal at the time, the article remains semi-protected almost a month later - I don't really see any justification for that, would it not be time to remove it, it doesn't seem quite fair at this time (?) for blocking anonymous users from editing. Is it possible to post a message to the talk page for 194.81.161.150 so that an alert appears every time someone logs in using that IP? It might help to inform each user of our IP address that the college can identify them by name. As I understand it, though; a new message alert will only be given to the first user who logs in from our IP... We can educate them at this end, but for us to post a general "Please don't vandalise wikipedia" notice on the college's network might end up as an invitation to potential vandals. A notice on wikipedia that "Swansea College is watching you" might be more effective. What do you think? Ewen 10:01, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You may wish to reconsider this AfD close as no consensus. A was discussed by a large variety of editors in the discussion, none of the reliable sources given are non-trivial. JoshuaZ 17:41, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Did you know that this userbox is dedicated to you sir? -Sox207 01:16, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BeatBox.Be

Hello, U used to delete my article about beatbox in Belgium.

http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Beatboxing&diff=153881250&oldid=153141722

BeatboxBe represents the website beatbox.Be and is the only informative channel about beatbox in Belgium. Roxorloops (the vice-world champion beatbox (Leipzig 2005)) is an administrator with us. But you deleted it because there was no source.

Then I added links afterwards, but then this happened:

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Spam_blacklist#Spam_from_beatbox.be

With my response here:

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Spam_blacklist#beatbox.be

Anyway, I hope you can whitelist beatbox.be on the English wikipedia so I can put my article and more back up again, with the right reference this time. (I'm really sorry, because in the past I made several errors regarding links, I was unaware of this strong policy. Now this will not occur again).

Thanx in advance for looking into this. BeatBox.Be
