In Attack of the Mutant, the 25th Goosebumps novel, a comic book fan discovers that his favorite villain is in fact alive. He then has to find a way to stop the villain. When the fan goes into the villans base, he is zapped by this laser-type thing. In the end, he discovers that he is a real life comic character after he cuts himself and is bleeding ink. The TV adaptation featured Adam West of Batman fame.

This would also become a PC game, being one of the first to use Cel-Shaded models.

"Attack of the Mutant" is the 25th novel of Goosebumps. Skipper Mathews is going to the orthodontist when he misses his stop and finds a building just like The Masked Mutant's. Libby, later found out to be the Masked Mutant, thinks Skipper is crazy. Skipper takes a peek in the building, and realizes he's five minutes late for his orthodontist appoinment. The next day, Skipper takes the bus again to see if the mysterious building was still there. when he gets off, it's gone. Libby, who happens to be on the bus again, tells Skipper the townspeople tore it down. Disappointed, Skipper goes home and finds his new comic of the Masked Muntant. The Masked Mutant, in the comic, senses the Galloping Gazelle is nearby. Skipper finds out that the Masked Mutant's building is covered with a Invisibility Curtain. Next week, Skipper goes to find the building again. Libby, on the bus again thinks Skipper is crazy to think there is an invisibility curtain. Skipper and Libby walk to the building and suddenly see it. They walk inside and press the "up" button on the elevator, but it goes down. Skipper and Libby lose each other and Skipper accidentally wanders into the base and finds sketches of past comic characters before finding HIM! Skipper now thinks the comic creater makes the comics here. Skipper goes home again and finds another comic and finds HIM sneaking into the Masked Mutant's headquarters. Skipper returns to the building and finds the Galloping Gazelle tied to a chair. Skipper frees him. Later they both find some stairs with rays that will explode you into a thousand pieces if you land on the first two steps. The Galloping Gazelle easily lands on the fifth step. Skipper lands on the first, but it's turned off so nothing happens to Skipper. The Galloping Gazelle and Skipper find the Masked Mutant. The Gallpoing Gazelle runs around the Mutant and trys to become a whirl wind and sweep the Masked Mutant away. The Galloping Gazelle fails and the Mutant trips him. The Galloping Gazelle flees the room, abandoning Skipper leaving him to die. The villain grabs Skipper and uses his molecules to stretch out his hand twenty feet off the ground and drop him. But then Libby bursts into the room and gets a plastic toy gun and melts the mutant. Now Skipper finds out "The Masked Mutant" Libby melted wasn't the Masked Mutant; it was the Magnificent Molecule Man. Now Skipper finds out Libby is the real Masked Mutant. Skipper tricks the Mutant into thinking he is the Colossal Elastic Boy and says he can only be destroyed by sulfuric acid. The Mutant uses his molecules and changes into acid. It lands on the carpet. Skipper destroys the mutant by changing into a liquid when he can only be changed into a solid. He thens goes home and cuts his arm and finds ink. In The TV show, he becomes the Colossal Elastic Boy.
