TAUM system
Appearance
TAUM (Traduction Automatique de l'Université de Montréal) is a Canadian machine translation system founded in 1965. Its major development happened between 1968 and 1980. This system was one of the first examples of automatic translation with a linguistic analysis.
Since 1977, it has translated around 15 million words from English to French without any human help. With a restricted dictionary (around 2,000 words and expressions), the system translates weather reports. It is a classic example of an effective and appropriate system for a task of a limited domain.
