Aperture Science
Aperture Laboratories is a fictional research corporation featured in the Half-Life series. It is discussed in Half-Life 2: Episode 2 and is the setting for the puzzle game Portal, which takes place in the Half-Life universe. Aperture Labs was a direct competitor to Black Mesa, and cues in Portal suggest that it is also a massive research institution, infamous for the dangerous nature of its experiments and consequential inability to attract top science talent.
During the course of events depicted in Portal, Aperture Laboratories seem to be long abandoned. In the climatic battle, the game's boss GLaDOS says she has flooded the Labs with a deadly neurotoxin. The time of this event, as for the game's plot's time, is unknown.
Aperture Labs is expected to play an important role in Half-Life 2: Episode 3. The long-lost Aperture science ship Borealis was presented in Episode 2 and will be the primary location for Episode 3.[citation needed]
Information about Aperture Labs is available through an easter egg on the aperturescience.com website. The information includes the name of Aperture Lab's first CEO - Cave Johnson, and his "3 Tier" plan to make the organization succeed.
