Lake Tengiz (Template:Lang-ru) is a salt lake in north-central part of Kazakhstan. It is located at around 50°26′23″N 68°54′0″E / 50.43972°N 68.90000°E. It has an area of 1,382 km², average depth of 2.5 m and maximum depth of 6.7 m. Lake Tengiz is an important wetland site for birds. It is designated a Ramsar wetland site of international importance. 295 species of birds have been recorded at Lake Tengiz, 22 of which are endangered.[1]
On October 16, 1976, Soyuz 23 unintentionally splashed down into the lake.
