Concert information
- The tour differs from previous Rush tours in an increase of new material played on the tour (9 songs compared to the more usual 4) [1] and the reintroduction of songs that have not been played for decades (for example "Circumstances" which was last played when the band was touring for 1978's "Hemispheres" )[2]. Some of the older songs (e.g "Digital Man" from Signals) were changed from their original version in the form of abbreviation[3]
- Drummer Neil Peart's drum solo has undergone changes. The ending, which featured Peart's performance of One O'Clock Jump by Count Basie, now features a sample of Cotton Tail, which he recorded with the Buddy Rich Band on the tribute Burning For Buddy, Vol. 1. The marimba section from Pieces of Eight, as well as the tribal excerpt piece from "Scars" have also been dropped. [4]
- Starting with the July 4, 2007 show at Darien Lake, the band substituted "Distant Early Warning" for "Summertime Blues". This setlist was then played on 3 out of the last 4 nights of the first east coast leg including the final show at Mohegan Sun on July 9, 2007. However on July 18 the band played "Summertime Blues" again to open the second leg of the tour.
- Rush once again use their connections to add humor to their tour. The Larger Bowl (A Pantoum) features an intro from SCTV's own Bob & Doug McKenzie. Tom Sawyer features an intro from South Park characters Cartman, Stan, Kyle, and Kenny who perform as Lil' Rush.[5]
- In each of the American concerts and those in the UK, Lee filmed the audience saying "Hi, Canada!" During the Calgary, London, Ottawa and Toronto concerts, Lee told the audience to say "Take off, eh" (but in Montreal, he told the audience to say "Vive les Habitants!"[6]
- In Geddy Lee's traditional "stack envy," on the opposite half of the stage from where Alex Lifeson has his amplifier stacks, Geddy had three rotisserie-style ovens, which were filled with chicken. Throughout the concert, chefs would periodically come onstage and tend to the chicken.
