Melinda Gordon has a gift. Ever since she was a girl she possessed the ability to talk to earthbound spirits. These spirits use Melinda as a conduit to pass messages to the living; sometimes this information is too intense and scattered to understand. This leads to skepticism by the living and confusion for Melinda. But when she is able to aid both the deceased and the living Melinda realizes this unearthly talent is gift to human kind and that it is her calling to help all those that have passed connect to those that have survived. In the first episode, she must help a sergeant, who died in the Vietnam War, to crossover.

Six year old Kenny Dale (played by Joseph Castanon) is killed in a train accident when the family car stalls in the path of an approaching train. Unaware that he has died and unable to find his parents he befriends a young boy whose mother believes Kenny to be nothing more than an imaginary friend. Melinda is introduced to the pair when she chases them away in time to avoid an oncoming train. Jim's mother pays the couple a visit and, confused by Melinda's odd behaviour, assumes she is pregnant. With Kenny's help, Melinda and her husband Jim, prevent Mr. Dale from shooting the man who sold them the car and whom he blames for Kenny's death. Melinda is eventually able to reunite mother and son for one last reconciliation before Kenny's spirit must pass on.
Ghost, Interrupted	October 7, 2005	103 (03)
A young girl, Natalie, is placed in a psychiatric facility for her strange behavior following her identical twin sister Zoe's death. While on a field trip in town, Natalie runs away from her group and tries to hide in Melinda's shop. Melinda quickly realizes that Natalie's 'abnormal' behavior is due to her sister haunting her. Zoe is earthbound because of a devastating secret she took with her to the grave: she slept with Natalie's boyfriend while intoxicated and while Natalie was asleep. Natalie is shattered when she finds out, and confronts her boyfriend. She hijacked her boyfriend's car, and then drove to the lake where her sister drowned. Zoe assumes Natalie is going to drown in the lake, and appears before Melinda, who is having dinner her friends Will and Andrea, who she's trying to matchmake. Melinda and her husband Jim drive to the lake, calling the twins' father along the way, and find Natalie already swimming away from shore. As Jim is about to dive into the water, Zoe tells him through Melinda to stop. As they watch, Natalie fulfills the twins' childhood ambition of reaching the buoys in the middle of the lake and tapping it three times. Neither twin has accomplished this before. The twins' father arrives, just as Natalie reaches the shore and they share a heartfelt goodbye with Zoe. The twins forgive each other, and their father tells Zoe that he has never compared her to Natalie, that he sees her for who she is, and not just Natalie's twin. This brings closure for all three of them, and Zoe fades away into a light only she can see.

A man who is killed in a triathlon bicycling accident enlists Melinda to help save the life of his fiancé who is so distraught that she attempts suicide. Melinda helps the man's wife find closure by introducing her to the man who received her fiancé's heart after the accident.

Andrea and Melinda are contracted to auction furniture from a community inn before it is torn down. While cleaning the basement Melinda finds the lost spirits of three boys and their dog that perished in an orphanage fire 50 years ago. Melinda tries to help the boys pass on before the inn is destroyed and they are forever locked as earth-bound spirits.

The five-year anniversary of Jim's father's death is getting close and Jim begins to act very strangely. Melinda notices this change in his behavior and believes the problem might be caused by a tortured spirit lurking around. While Melinda tries to help Jim, she is also presented with the surprise visit of an old friend (played by Estella Warren). This visit brings back painful memories of times past for Melinda.

In this episode, an evil spirit wearing a wedding gown haunts Melinda's friend Lisa. The spirit, called Serena, is very opposed to moving on and presents a tough challenge for Melinda. This spirit is special, Melinda learns, because she died on the day she married Lisa's current fiancé. The jealous, vindictive Serena has her heart set on destroying the wedding and the couple, and does everything in her power to interfere with Melinda's attempts to set things right, even going so far as to set her eyes on Jim.

In this episode a woman who recently died will not pass over until her young son, who is a boxer, reconciles with his father, her husband. Melinda is enlisted to help this family come to terms with their loss but has a lot of difficulty getting these two men to reunite.

Melinda encounters the spirit of a dead comic who is confused and doesn't understand his current state of existence. Melinda learns that this comic took his own life and she helps him make amends with all those people he left behind before he passes over. Also in this episode, Jim is threatened by the antique shop's recent business boom.

The circus arrives in town and brings with it the spirit of a man who thinks his brother murdered him. Melinda must help this ghost come to terms with his death and his brother. And during all this, they discover a hidden secret.

Melinda must help the ghost of an African-American man who had been attacked and killed by a lowlife, racist white co-worker in the 1970s. The ghost, named Ely Fisher, is haunting the prosecutor (now a judge) who had enough evidence but still failed to file charges against the white co-worker. Melinda tries to help Ely find justice and help his son, Randall, to change his racist views before they are passed on to the next generation - his grandson, Jameel (who can also see ghosts).

After waking up from a coma caused by a head injury that put her in the hospital for a week, Melinda can no longer see or hear spirits. She fears she has lost her gift. At the same time, a person who she helped, Diane Shields, comes to her in need of her help. She asks Melinda to help her brother's daughter, who experiences strange and bizzare things after the recent death of her boyfriend during a football practice. Later on, she realizes that it isn't her gift that has vanished but somehow the ghosts have been drifted away from Grandview.

Melinda experiences a sense of intuition when she realizes that a plane is going to crash when the spirits of the pilot and flight attendant contact her. Melinda tells Andrea about her premonitions and Andrea is worried for her brother who was meant to be flying out from Johannesburg that very day. Andrea and Melinda attempt to warn people about the impending crash, but when Melinda informs Andrea that the plane was from Johannesburg, Andrea decides to head over to her brother's apartment in an attempt to contact him. Shortly after Andrea has left, the plane crashes over the town. Melinda is surprised when Andrea returns saying that she was driving near the crash site when the crash occurred. To her horror, Melinda realizes something that Andrea hasn't realized yet. Just then, the spirits of the dead passengers from the doomed flight arrive. The flight attendant whom Melinda was contacted by earlier informs Melinda that she knows that Melinda can see them.
The One	May 5, 2006	122 (22)
(Continued from "Free Fall") Andrea seems to know that there is something that her friend isn't telling her and assumes it's about her brother being dead. However, when Melinda goes to talk with the families of the crash fatalities, it is revealed that there is a question mark by Mitch's name on the flight list. The souls from the crash go at the crash sight as Melinda encourages them to cross over. However, the wide brimmed hat spirit convinces them to stay earthbound. Almost all of the souls listen to Melinda and cross over into the Light (Heaven) but seven souls follow the wide brimmed hat man into the Dark Side (Hell). At the end of the episode, Mitch is seen outside by Melinda and Andrea, and Andrea runs out to greet him. However, Mitch walks right past Andrea and talks to Melinda instead. It is revealed that he was never on the plane after all! However, it is also revealed that Andrea had perished when the plane crashed where she was driving earlier that day. The episode, as well as the season, closes with the wide-brimmed hat man (seen in earlier episodes) sneaking up on Andrea's ghost.

After purchasing a set of ornaments at a flea market, Melinda finds that they are haunted. Melinda uses the ornaments to meet Dennis’s ghost. Dennis wants Melinda to reunite his girlfriend with her birth mother.

The ghost of a man who was buried in the wrong grave starts to haunt a cemetery as someone else’s wife is coming to mourn him every night. Melinda must reconcile the man with his hostile wife and daughter in order for him to be able to cross-over.

Jim has a ghost who died during surgery come to him in his dreams. Melinda and Jim find that the ghost, a supermodel, cannot cross-over as she wants to save her little sister from suffering the same destiny. Jim's friends are frightened by the crazy events that occur at his house.

Melinda and Jim's first camping trip is interrupted as Melinda helps the ghost of a woman who left her husband and young daughter. Before the woman can cross over, Melinda must find the woman’s daughter and help her to learn the truth about her parent’s past in order for her to be safe.

The ghost of a chef who died in a fire at a Chinese restaurant meets Melinda after the restaurant he died in burns for a second time. He tells Melinda that she must find out who set the fire that he was blamed for.

When Melinda meets a nightclub waiter who has not played his guitar since his friend, Jared, died, she finds that he is being haunted by two ghosts. Midnight Hour, Three Days Grace and J.C. Chasez guest stars.

A high school baseball pitcher named Justin finds that he is haunted by the former star baseball pitcher. The ghost is out for revenge on the coach, who he blames for his death.

While Melinda is at the university’s botany lab, she deals with some telekinetic events while dealing with a plant from Peru that is bleeding. Melinda finds that she must help a doctor save herself.

Melinda has been having these weird visions. She thinks that a ghost has been communicating with her by anyway the ghost can, which is through showing these things to her. Later on, she realizes that the ghost who is trying to communicating with her is not actually a ghost who's dead, but some one who's in a coma. His wife and family are in a legal battle to take him off of the life support.

After figuring out Eric has been reincarnated many times as different people, Melinda must convince Eric to come back and not fight being reincarnated again when he starts to threaten the woman who is carrying a baby that Eric will become. Melinda meets with Professor Payne, who now apparently fully knows her secret, to talk about reincarnation.

Melinda deals with the ghost of a young woman named Tais and the rest of her cheerleading squad and a girl named Madi, an ex-cheerleader herself, who has been casting spells on the team to cause them trouble and harm them. Melinda must figure out between Madi and another cheerleader named Ranna what is keeping Tais from crossing over. Grammy Award winning singer Mary J. Blige guest stars.

Delia has her engagement ring restored at a local jeweler and when she and Melinda go to pick it up, the store is violently robbed at gunpoint. Later, Melinda is visited by the ghost of the jewelry store salesman, Randy, who died after the robbery of a severe asthma attack. He and his dangerous brother-in-law Wyatt had planned the robbery together but when Randy hid $75,000 from Wyatt, Wyatt became angry and locked him in the basement, causing the attack.

Strange things are happening around a teenage girl, who's been cycling through the foster care system for several months. Melinda decides to become her foster parent, to see if she can help her. However, it's proving more complex than she thought. Cesar Millan guest stars.

Melinda helps Ned deal with a ghost who had just put a scare into him. Melinda also helps a ghost who appears without any clothes on. Delia sees that Melinda is once again talking to herself and Melinda decides it’s time to share her gift with Delia. It turns out that the ghost was actually Charlie, Ned's Dad.

Later, Melinda and Professor Payne search for missing children after their Nanny says that they left with a man named Graham. Meanwhile, a mysterious man tries to get Melinda to stop helping the good guys. And, with a near death experience, she learns that she may have a brother.

Jim and Melinda welcome back a friend named Matt, who's just returned from his mission in Iraq. The man appears to be changed, especially to his girlfriend, who has been patiently awaiting his return. Seems like Matt is the only one who survived in his team, and he doesn't understand why, until the ghosts of the dead soldiers appear to Melinda to unveil the truth.

A man named Shane seems to be haunted by the ghost of his female stalker, Coleen. When Melinda investigates on his case, it turns out that all Coleen's ghost wants is to bring Shane to justice, as he is the actual stalker and Melinda soon becomes his new target.

Melinda helps the ghost of a young woman who died while imprisoned by the families who accused her of being a witch and locked up. She had a young baby when she was imprisoned and is worried about her. Melinda and Professor Payne search town death records but a group of ghosts try to prevent that from happening.

Melinda and Professor Rick Payne talk with Claudia, a college professor who had a secret relationship with a student named Kevin who died recently in a car accident. His friend Sophie committed suicide, and Melinda must try to help her move on.

When a young woman goes missing, the family assumes it is a kidnapping but there is no ransom note. Jim and Melinda talk about the case because a "psychic" is about to talk to the family and Melinda knows that he really doesn't know anything but will be making stuff up to make the family happy just so he can take their money. Melinda visits the family and after talking to the younger sister, realizes that it wasn't a kidnapping but an intervention, by the sister and the victim's ex-boyfriend, gone wrong.

Melinda deals with a ghostly husband and wife who refuse to crossover. She challenges them to a game of 20 questions, saying if she guesses their secret that they must crossover. They taunt her, cruelly calling her Andrea, forcing her to see an accident that happened between Matt and his father which then leads to his father's murder. They are also causing trouble for another man and woman, which is how Melinda becomes involved.
All Ghosts Lead to Grandview	November 23, 2007	309 (53)
Melinda and Jim take care of a young girl named Becca who says she can also see ghosts. She claims her parents died when she was younger but Melinda coaxes her to tell the truth and she tells her that no one else understands and she wants to stay with Melinda. She says that she is forced to go to doctors, that they try and make her take pills and that the only way it will get better is to make the ghosts go away. The ghost of the little boy that Becca has seen, Daniel, tells her that a man approached him and told him that Dan should go with him because he knows where "they" are keeping Daniel's parents. Becca tells him to talk to Melinda and he says that he doesn't know Melinda but he knows Becca so he wants her to help him, not Melinda.
