Páll Óskar Hjálmtýsson[1] (artist name Páll Óskar, internationally Paul Oscar, * 16. March 1970) is an Icelandic Popsänger.
Páll Óskar was born as one of seven children in a musician family. Thus it already early went as an interpreter into action: At the age of seven years its first record appeared, with twelve played it the main role in the musical " Rubber Tarzan" after the children's book of Ole Lund Kirkegaard.
The mood break introduced a multiyear singing break, which ended only, when Páll Óskar began its study and in the university in choir and musical productions participated. Later he than studio singer worked, besides he appeared in Reykjavík as dragee Queen and became known by its provokanten shows. To the locking of the club it went to the radio, where it could make itself as disk Jockey a name.
1993 became acquainted with Páll Óskar in New York town centre the Icelandic musicians Jóhann Jóhannsson and Sigurjon Kjartansson, which played in the skirt volumes Ham. With them it created the volume Milljónamæringarnir (the millionaires) in the October of the yearly, which published the album Milljón in the summer 1994 á man.
One year later brought Páll out Óskar than solo artists and on his own record label the long player Palli, which became the bestverkauften Icelandic music album of the yearly 1995. it reached 1997 as a representative of Iceland the 20. Place with Eurovision the Song Contest. In its homeland it is considered as icon of the homosexuals and often appears as DJ in the clubs of Reykjavík.
Paul Oscar (born Páll Óskar Hjálmtýsson in 1970) is a very popular singer in Iceland, in a register rather dance. He starts to sing as of his more young age and takes part in particular in theatrical productions such as The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
In 1997, it takes part in Eurovision and, in spite of its classification in the twentieth place, it returns to the contest its side glamour. Others followed its example like Dana International or Sertab Erener. Having been voted by plebiscite by the télévote, it would have obtained a better classification if it had taken part in the contest a few years later.
Paul Oscar officiates also regularly as DJ.
He is openly homosexual and fights for the rights of the homosexual ones.
