"Lombard (Miami Vice)"

"Evan" is the twenty-second episode of Miami Vice's first season

Plot

Albert Lombard (Dennis Farina) is a Mafia boss who receives a citation to testify in a Grand Jury against another Mafia capo, Librizzi. Lombard has no intention to declare, but Librizzi has his suspicion and wants to have Lombard killed. A war between both capos starts. Lombard has his organization destroyed, and when he is about to be kiiled, Crockett and Tubbs rescue him and offer him their protection.

Lombard agrees to testify against Librizzi, because he feels grateful to Crockett and Tubbs, and because he wants to start a new and honest relation with his estranged son. Crockett and Tubbs keep in custody Lombard and help him in another murder attempt by Librizzi's men.

When Lombard shows in the Grand Jury, he finally refuses to cooperate. He prefers to be true to the Mafia honor. The episode ends with Lombard leaving the Court of Justice, and two hitmen following him.

Episode Background

The character of Lombard has been shown, or mentioned, previously in other episodes, specially in One Eyed Jack, when he is the responsible of killing an old friend from Crockett. Crockett has not forgotten this, so when he is bodyguarding Lombard, and the Mafia capo tries to befriend him, Crockett prefers to keep a distance between them

Trivia

Lombard states that when he was young, he uses to work with Meyer Lansky.
