Quad Cities (Minnesota)

The Quad Cities consist of the towns Virginia, Eveleth, Gilbert, and Mountain Iron. They are located in the heart of St. Louis County in Minnesota. They are also in the Arrowhead Region.

Populations

The Quad Cities have a 2007 estimated population of about 18,000. Virginia has about 8,900 habitants. Then comes Eveleth with about 3,700 people. Mountain Iron has about 2,900 people. Gilbert has about 1,400 people. Also, St. Louis County has a population of about 198,992 people.

Land and Climate

The Quad Cities, being in Northern Minnesota is continental. There is an average of 20-40 inches of precipitation each year. The air is very humid. There are hot summers and icy winters. Record temperatures in the area are as followed: about 110 degrees farenheight in July and about 50-60 degrees below zero in January. The land of the Quad Cities is mainly forestry and swampland. St. Louis County is built on a large amount of iron ore.

Economy and Industry

The main industries in the area are mining, lumber, and tourism.
