Quietdrive is a pop punk band from Minneapolis, Minnesota formed at Saint John's University in 2002. Quietdrive released their debut album When All That's Left Is You on May 30, 2006 and are signed to Epic Records.
Biography
Quietdrive members Justin Bonhiver and Droo Hastings were best friends growing up together. In 9th grade, Brandon Lanier started telling Hastings that he was a great drummer, and that they should start a band with him. At the time, Droo Hastings was the lead singer of the trio, and Brandon was the bass player.
The band started to audition for a lead singer, so they posted an ad on MP3.com. Kevin Truckenmiller posted his solo work, including an early incarnation of the song Both Ways. They later got Kevin to audition for them. At the time, Kevin went to the audition and sang into a RadioShack microphone. The trio clamed that they couldn't really hear what he was singing, so they set up a recording session at a friend’s basement.[citation needed]
When All That's Left Is You is Quietdrive's first LP, released in May of 2006. Its first single was "Rise from the Ashes" and was featured on EA's NHL 2007 soundtrack. Matt Kirby has been quoted in saying that the band wants to explore different sounds in their album, including the harder rock sounds from their past.
In the month of January 2007, Quietdrive was featured as the "Artist of the Month" on Xbox Live.
The band is touring heavily in the Midwest as of late 2006 and early 2007.
Quietdrive released a new single entitled "Pretend" on their AbsolutePunk.net page in early 2007 for fans to stream.
Their cover of the Cyndi Lauper song "Time After Time" (which is more upbeat than the original) is currently being used in promotions for the WNBA for its "Have You Seen Her?" campaign. It has become a minor hit on pop radio, hitting #33 on the syndicated American Top 40 countdown show. It was also featured on the soundtrack of the 2006 feature film, John Tucker Must Die.
Origin of Name
History
Quietdrive was the name of the original incarnation of the band - which included members Kevin Truckenmiller, Brandon Lanier, Justin Bonhiver and Droo Hastings. It was created when one day Lanier was driving Bonhiver to his house. Bonhiver was obnoxiously screaming, Lanier told him "BE QUIET! THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A QUIETDRIVE!!" They both looked at eachother and knew that was it. That was the name of their band, QUIETDRIVE.Sneaker 2 Bombs was the name of Kevin Truckenmiller and Matt Kirby's side project. The other members of Quietdrive were the backing band for Sneaker 2 Bombs both on their CD Leaving Dramatics, and for live shows. For a while they performed as both groups, sometimes playing each others songs. Once Matt Kirby came on board permanently, the decision was made to switch exclusively to the Sneaker 2 Bombs moniker. The band faced an identity crisis of sorts in the ensuing months, briefly changing their name to The Never Ending..., though that was almost immediately discarded. Ultimately the band settled on the name Quietdrive. Matt Kirby has said that the name was never something they were absolutely confident in.
Meaning
In an interview with Away-Team.com, Kevin stated that their sound was "Rock n roll mixed with some passion and emotion and a never-ending drive to succeed, I guess. That's kind of what the name is all about, that quiet drive within us all." [1]
