Production
Farah Khan who had earlier directed the film Main Hoon Na (2004) with was supposed to do Happy New Year but later scrapped that project to do this film.
The film's score and soundtrack are composed by the musical duo, Vishal-Shekhar with lyrics by renowned lyricist, Javed Akhtar. Composer A.R.Rahman opted out of this movie, as T-Series did not agree to share the copyrights of music with him and the lyricist.[1]
The film is based on reincarnation. Shooting of the film began in January 2007 at various locations in India. Over 30 of the Bollywood's hottest stars are putting in a guest appearance for a special song in the film. [2] The film is slated for release on November 9, 2007.
Om Shanti Om is all set to create another record of sorts by going in for an unheard of 2000 prints (worldwide) release. This is the highest number of prints (including digital) for any Indian movie till date.[3] Om Shanti Om has set a record of sorts as it has registered pre advanced booking of 18, 000 tickets in a chain of theatres in national capital Delhi a couple of days before the advance booking was to start.[4]
Baba Films, production and distribution company, has offered a record Rs.110 million for the rights to the Mumbai Circuit, easily surpassing the highest amount ever paid for the territory of Rs.85 million for Jaan-E-Mann.[5]
SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment has reportedly sold the world rights for the film to Eros International for an amount between Rs.720-750 million.[6][7]
