Liquefied natural gas is used to transport natural gas over long distances, often by sea. In most cases, LNG terminals are purpose built ports used exclusively to export or import LNG.

  • Gladstone, Queensland - proposal by Santos to build LNG liquefaction plant, processing coal seam methane to export 3-4 million tonnes per annum.

  • North Adriatic, an offshore LNG receiving and re-gasification terminal to be located in the northern Adriatic Sea, owned by ExxonMobil, Qatar Terminals Ltd and Edison SpA. [35]
  • Brindisi, BG Group [36]

UK

  • Dragon LNG, Milford Haven, UK is under construction in Milford Haven, UK. See for the project website. Companies behind the terminal are BG, Petronas of Malaysia and 4Gas. [38]
  • Canvey Island, Thames Estuary. Established in 1959, and receiving terminal of the world's first LNG tanker, the Methane Pioneer, which carried LNG from Lake Charles, LA. LNG operations ceased in 1994.
