Ellen Hopkins (born March 26, 1955) is an American novelist currently residing in the State of northern Nevada.

Educated in California, Hopkins wrote her first poem when she was 9. When she finished her education, she started working for various newspapers and magazines where she wrote articles on Sci-Fi. Since she became a novelist, she has published a number of different books. She has a dog and four kids Cristal, Kelly, Joey, and Orion, who was adopted by the Hopkins. As a girl Hopkins was adopted to an older couple. Her dad who was 72 at the time and her mom who was 42 at the time. She says that having perants of that age was both hard and the best thing that could have happened to her. She has been married twice, her first marriage didn't work out, but that is only for her to know why. And the second is still going strong. Her current husband is the father of her kids. Only two of the book Hopkins has written were about her family matters. The others were written out of the fact that she wanted to reach all readers of all kinds, and the struggles they are/have gone through in their life.

Novels (fiction)

  • Crank (2004)
  • Burned (2005)
  • Impulse (2007)
  • Glass (2007)
  • Identical (2008)

As well as these novels, she has also written over 20 nonfiction stories for children. Her novels Crank and Glass were both based on her daughter's struggle with a methamphetamine addiction. "Glass", though is a sequel to "Crank" because many reader's wanted to know what happened to the main character. It is said to be that the baby born at the end of "Crank" is Orion, Hopkins youngest son.
