Shiny Toy Guns is an American electronica/indie/rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 2002.
History
The band was founded in 2002 by bassist and keyboardist Jeremy Dawson and vocalist and guitarist Chad Petree. Both had known each other for years growing up in Shawnee, Oklahoma and worked together on previous music projects such as Cloud2Ground and Slyder. After these projects, they went underground for a couple of years but continued making music together until enlisting both vocalist Carah Faye Charnow and drummer Mikey Martin in 2004. Charnow was born in London, England; she and her family moved to the U.S. when she was four years old.
The band quickly gained popularity locally in California as well as through their MySpace page. In early 2005, they independently released their first album We Are Pilots. They began touring across America that summer in support of their album. They re-recorded and independently released We Are Pilots again in November 2005, with a revised track list. They continued to tour extensively, and, in June 2006, they signed with Universal Records and released a finalized copy of We Are Pilots in October 2006.
The band is currently touring the United States and Canada in support of their newest release. The band shot a music video for their song "Rainy Monday" on June 28, 2007 in Brooklyn, New York.
Carah grew up in Newbury Park and attended Newbury Park High School, where she was a member in the school choir.
Controversy
In 2006, it was speculated that Carah Faye Charnow was actually the voice heard on Paris Hilton's debut album, Paris. In an MTV interview, Carah explained that the rumor was false and that while she had done some vocals on a dummy track that might go to Paris Hilton, it never went beyond that.[1]
